Horse Racing: Snow Fairy in ‘great shape’
After a splendid victory in Japan, Snow Fairy, is all set to steal the show at the Hong Kong Cup on Sunday. The dual winner of the Oaks is doing just great in her training sessions, according to her trainer, Ed Dunlop. He is confident that the champion filly will add another victory, to her list of credits, on Sunday.
Her victory in the Grade I Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup is described as stunning. The daughter of Intikhab took over the field at Kyoto on 14th November, as she was able to hold off 16 of her rivals, under the jockey Ryan Moore. When her trainer Dunlop was approached, regarding the development of his filly before the prestigious Hong Kong Cup, he said,
“She has loved being centre of attention since her exciting victory in Japan. She never saw another horse in the QE II and everyone wanted to know her afterwards.”
Snow Fairy is being sent out to run in the one mile and two furlong, Hong Kong Cup, rather than the one mile and four furlong, Vase event, with jockey Ryan Moore, who can easily handle the champion filly over this distance. Talking to the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the pleased trainer was reported as saying,
“Ryan gets on really well with the filly and while 2000 metres is slightly short of her optimum trip. She has speed and can quicken. She won over six furlongs as a two year old. She is a remarkable filly. She has thrived all summer and never flinched, especially in the Oaks in June where she came from an impossible position to poke her head in front close to the line.”
It was indeed a very wise decision on Dunlop’s part, to bypass the Japan Cup, as the filly got more time to practice and train for the Hong Kong Cup. Since she got, quite some, time to relax, she will be enthusiastic in her upcoming meet. The Hong Kong Cup ,will not be a piece-of-cake for the dual Oaks winner ,as the field will be competed by last year’s winners, Vision D’Etat, Stacelita, Planteur along with some of the best racehorses of Hong Kong.
