Horse Racing: Summery Justice found to be lame
Just a day before the greatest race of the Chepstow racecourse was to kick off, one of the contenders of the event, Summery Justice, was found to be lame. He was thus ruled out of the Coral Welsh National. This announcement was made by Venetia Williams this
morning. The seven-year-old racehorse was 10-1 with the sponsors for the Marathon Handicap of the Chepstow meeting.
His trainer won this event with the racehorse Jocks Cross in the 2000 edition of the event. She was reported to be very enthusiastic about the Welsh National throughout the week as she was expecting that the trainee had high chances of finishing the race
in the second place. The colt Summery Justice had recently claimed the Bangor meeting with a distance of eight lengths.
Williams’ optimism and enthusiasm was rooted from that of the punters, as her racehorse was backed with odds as short as 9-1 with Boylesports. Comparing to the stayer’s odds last week, this was a drastic improvement.
Talking to the correspondents about the condition of her trainee, she was reported as saying that she is hopeful that there is no serious medical issue with her colt and that he vets will be inspecting him today. She added that he seems a bit lame behind,
while she is yet to know about injury later.
Since Summery Justice has been ruled out of the race by his trainer, his rider has switched his mount from him to Flight Leader. The latter racehorse will now be ridden by Aidan Coleman in the Welsh National.
Summery Justice is not the first racehorse out of the field of 20 entries for the mega event who has been eliminated from the Grade I event. The race will be run over a distance of 3 miles and 5 ½ furlongs. Amongst the first few eliminated competitors is
the champion racehorse Lochan Lacha. Apart from his and Summery Justice, Master Oversees has also been eliminated from the event. The colt was the second place finisher of the Sussex National that took place last Sunday. So far, six contenders have been eliminated
out of the initial field of 20.
On the other hand, Dream Alliance will be running the event to defend his title that he claimed in this event. His rival Silver By Nature will also be competing the Welsh National along with Synchronised and Dream Island.
