What does " cast in the box " mean exactly please

  1. The animals inability to get up once he has laid down and been on his back. Well, it is generally for horses so I guess the same in racing terms.


  2. a horse cannot use its legs to help itself up after a tumble, could be in stable or horsebox

When a stabled horse lays with legs too close to an enclosure or wall to allow them to position themselves to stand it is cast.  The best action is to halter the animal and pull till their in a better or more centered position.  The danger with casting is that a struggling horse can break a leg in a panic.

  4. As the previous asnwerer said, its when a horse lays in a stable and gets stuck laid down and can't get up- it often causes a lot of distress and can result in serious injury or in the worst case death.
