Horse Racing: Thanksgiving weekend to offer quality racing
This Thanksgiving weekend will be one of the most enjoyable holidays for the horse racing fans as the most entertaining Grade I races will kick off in the United States. Meanwhile the $ 2.93 Grade I Japan Cup will be the centre of attention in Tokyo. Six
Grade I races are scheduled to take place in the US.
The events that will be taking place on Thursday include the Grade II Falls City Handicap that will be kicking off on Thursday. This meet will be followed by the Grade III Fall Highweight Handicap that will be taking place at Aqueduct, Vernon O. Then Hollywood
Park will be witnessing the Grade III Underwood Stakes, while the Thanksgiving Handicap will be taking place at Fair Grounds.
On Friday, the 26th of November, the racing day will start with the $ 500,000 Grade I Clark Handicap. This is the richest start of the weekend. The champion colt and winner of the prestigious Breeders’ Cup Classic, Blame will once again make a
name for himself at Churchill Downs along with the winner of the Grade II Super Derby, Apart.
On the third day of the holiday weekend, the 27th of November, the first race that will kick off will be the Grade I Matriarch Stakes. This race will carry a purse money of $ 250,000 and will be the opening event of the Holiday Turf Festival taking
place at Hollywood. This start will feature the racehorse from Europe known as Special Duty. It is expected that Special Duty will take over the field and steal the show in the Matriarch event at Juddmonte Farms since 1996.
The Black Friday slate also includes the Grade II Top Flight Handicap that will be run at Aqueduct and the Grade III All American Stakes that will take place at Golden Gate Fields.
One of the four graded stakes that will be taking place at Aqueduct on Saturday is the Hill ‘n’ Dale Cigar Mile Handicap, which is a Grade I event. This race will be contending by the winner of the Grade I Jockey Gold Cup Stakes, Grade I Haynesfield Stakes
and the Grade I Vosburgh Stakes, Girolamo. The racehorse was not able to give a good performance in the recent Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The upcoming stars of the racing industry will be brought to the limelight through the special program “Stars of Tomorrow” that will be featuring the Grade II Remsen Stakes and Grade II Demoiselle Stakes. These two events will be taking place on the Aqueduct
card, while the Grade II Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes and Grade II Golden Rod Stakes will be run on the Churchill Downs. The aforementioned meets will be open for the racehorses of age two and above.
On the other hand, the Hollywood racetrack will host the Grade II Generous Stakes for the two year old colts and the Grade I Citation Handicap that will be featuring the winner of the Canadian Grade I Woodbine Mile Stakes, Court Vision.
The Japan Cup that will be taking place on Sunday will feature some of the most talented racehorses including the winner of Pattison Canadian International Stakes (Grade I), Buena Vista )winner of Tenno Sho Japan Grade I) and Oken Bruce. Oken Bruce was the
second place finisher to Vodhka in the last year’s racing season. The races that will take place in the United States on the last day of the bountiful Thanksgiving season include the Grade I Hollywood Derby and the Grade III Miesque Stakes. These events will
feature the leading two year old fillies of the country.
