Horse Racing: Uncle Mo, suffering from strage illness, will not be taking part in the Kentucky Derby
The Kentucky Derby is scheduled to take place today, May 7, 2011.
The event has received immense popularity in the world of horse racing and it is being held for the 137th time this year. However, the race will not be featuring one of its most loved horses, Uncle Mo.
The news has brought disappointment to many fans as the horse was generally held to be the best bet for the winning position in the racing event.
Uncle Mo has contracted an illness due to which he would me missing the event. The horse showed symptoms of a strange illness on Friday and consequently, his name had to be cut out from the list of participants in today’s event.
This is not the first time that the horse, considered to be the best for the Kentucky Derby event, had to be enlisted out of the race.
He will be missing from the event for the third consecutive year. Other horses that have missed the race are ‘I Want Revenge and Quality Road’ as well as ‘Eskendereya’. ‘I Want Revenge and Quality Road’ did not make it to the Kentucky Derby 2011 whereas ‘Eskendereya’ was not up to running the meet in 2010.
The jockey who had won the Kentucky Derby event last year, Todd Pletcher, expressed his disappointment and concern over the failure of Uncle Mo to take part in the race, saying: “I am very, very, very, very disappointed about this. I don’t think I’ve ever had a horse as good as Uncle Mo. We’ve had every resource to try to get this horse right, but we’re not there. I take it as a personal failure. We just don’t know what’s wrong with this horse, and it scares me”.
The horse’s absence has been treated with much disappointment from the entire horse racing world. Uncle Mo’s health has not been in perfect shape since April of this year and he was found to have an unhealthy look about him when he was last seen to run a race event at the Wood Memorial.
