Horse Racing: Undefeated Zenyatta ready for Breeders’ Cup Classic
Zenyatta, the American champion Thoroughbred racehorse remains undefeated in her 19 career starts. She will be once again running against male horses for the second year now to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic that will be held at Churchill Downs on the 5th
to 6th of November.
The $ 5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic is considered to be the most significant race of American Horse Racing. 26 colts from overseas entered Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky on Wednesday, to participate in the 14 races (worth $ 26 million) of the Breeders’
Cup world championships.
Todd Pletcher is dominating all the other trainers since he has sent out the most number of horses to contend in the much awaited event.
Talking to the correspondents, he said, “We’re coming in holding a strong hand.”
The most significant racehorses that will be a part of the Breeders’ Cup Classic event include the Preakness Stakes winner Lookin At Lucky, the runner First Dude, Blame the Whitney Handicap winner and Quality Road, the Woodward and Metropolitan Mile winner.
When asked about Zenyatta, Lookin At Lucky’s trainer Bob Baffert told the correspondents, “It is the first Classic that everybody is going to be rooting for one horse.”
Bob Baffert has always appreciated Zenyatta’s performances and is known to be a great fan of the remarkable mare. He went on to say, “That mare has done so much for racing. We all want to win, but we don’t mind getting beat by her.”
The competitors of the Breeders’ Cup Classic will be finalised on Tuesday. These names will then be revealed by the management of Churchill Downs.
Zenyatta has already taken over the field in five of her seasonal starts this year and is now hoping to defend her title at the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Her fans want her to end her great athletic career with a spectacular victory in the 1 ¼ mile American
Classic Race. The six-year-old racehorse has won most of the races in Southern California, the synthetic surfaces being her favourite. She has the honour to be the first female horse to have won the last year’s Classic Cup that was held at Santa Anita.
John Sheriffs, her excited trainer said, “She looks terrific. The races really haven’t taken anything out of her. She is handling everything well.”
Zenyatta is the strongest candidate for this year’s Horse of the Year Award.
