Horse Racing Update: Solwhit to miss Stan James Champion Hurdle
As the year 2010 offered some quality horse racing events for the fans and experts of the sport, the expectations from the 2011 meetings are important for the trainers of the colts and the managers of the fixtures. After the severe damage that was done to
the racing calendar towards the end of the year due to heavy snowfall in Europe, the upcoming meetings are being looked forward to by the fans and all those involved in the horse racing business.
The BHP Insurances Irish Champion Hurdle that will take place at Leopardstown, Ireland on the 23rd of January will be featuring the talented racehorses, Hurricane Fly and Solwhit. Nonetheless, the trainer of the colt Solwhit, Charles Byrnes, revealed
today that the racehorse will not be participating in the Stan James Champion Hurdle scheduled to take place in Cheltenham.
Talking to the correspondents about the development and previous performances of Solwhit, Byrnes said that he was delighted that Solwhit had concluded the Festival Hurdle that also took place at Leopardstown on Wednesday in a very good manner. He added that
Solwhit did not have to struggle there as much as he had to in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle against his rival Hurricane Fly.
He further stated that there is a high possibility that Solwhit will be taking part in the Irish Champion Hurdle. He also said that although it will not be easy for his colt to hold off Hurricane Fly, he will be happy with the second place as well as there
is plenty of money for the second spot also.
Talking about the future ventures of the racehorse, the trainer was reported as saying, “After that we will be going our separate ways. Solwhit probably won’t be even entered for the Champion Hurdle and we will aim him at the Aintree Hurdle instead.”
The champion Solwhit has so far claimed six Grade I events and was the victorious contender of the 2009 edition of the Aintree Hurdle that was run over a distance of 2 miles and 4 furlongs. In his last three encounters with Hurricane Fly, Solwhit has always
been the runner up to him. These encounters include the Rabobank Champion Hurdle that took place at Punchestown in April, the Hatton’s Hurdle that took place at Fairyhouse in December and the Festival Hurdle that took place in Leopardstown this Wednesday.
The seven years old racehorse Hurricane Fly trains under the care of the trainer Willie Mullins.
Solwhit defeated Hurrican Fly in the Dobbins and Madigans Hurdle that took place at Punchestown in November of 2009.
