Horse Racing: Varian counting on Laaheb for his first Group 1 victory
Famed trainer, Roger Varian, will be saddling his champion racehorse, Laaheb, in the much awaited and flaunted Qipco Jockey Club Stakes, taking place at the Newmarket racecourse on Saturday.
The race carries prize money of 80,000 pounds and the trainer is looking up to his colt to land this event in the first place and provide him with the first group 1 victory of his training career.
The trainer has recently been doing a good job in the sense that a couple of his trainees have claimed many of the significant races and have made him one of the high profile trainers of the racing industry.
This spring season, Varian’s trainee, Michael Jarvis, won the race that took place at the Newmarket racecourse, named Kremlin Stables. Furthermore his trainee, Eton Forever, went on to clinch victory in the Spring Mile meeting that was run at the ever famous,
Doncaster racecourse.
On the other hand, the racehorse, Laaheb is owned by Sheikh Hamdan. He has previously started and won two races at Group level and much is expected from him in the Newmarket meeting. The last appearance that he made was in the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic
that took place at the Meydan racecourse in March. In this particular race, Laaheb finished at fourth place behind Rewilding.
When the trainer was approached by the correspondents regarding the Newmarket meeting and Laaheb, he was reported as saying, “We were very pleased with his run in Dubai. He appears to have taken the race and the travelling well”.
Roger Varian further went on to say, “I have been pleased with his condition and work since – we hope he can run well at Newmarket”.
As for the ground, the racehorse has already shown fondness for his local track. This fact was evident by his spectacular performances in the July Course, which he won twice, and Rowley Mile, which he claimed once.
It is expected that Laaheb will be confronted by five of his major opponents in the Newmarket meeting on Saturday.
