Fairyhouse was to host two horse racing events this weekend, but the freezing weather conditions eventually changed the fate of Saturday’s meeting. This decision was taken by the officials at Fairyhouse after inspecting the weather
conditions and analysing the forecast in order to save the card for the Sunday meeting. The Saturday event is now postponed to the 2nd of December, Thursday. It was important for the Fairyhouse connections to cancel the Saturday meeting because
the Sunday fixture is to feature three Grade I competitions.
According to the domestic weather forecast, Friday and Saturday night will be witnessing some extreme frost and thus Horse Racing Ireland was requested by Fairyhouse to allow them to change the schedule of the Saturday contest.
HRI, keeping in view the importance of Sunday’s events agreed. The three prestigious events that will kick off on Sunday include the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle, sponsored by Bar One Racing, Drinmore Novice Chase and Royal Bond Novice Hurdle.
Even though Sunday was the more important day for the fans of the sport, they were still disappointed at Fairyhouse’s decision to postpone the Saturday meets. The Manager of Fairyhouse, Peter Roe explained to correspondents, “Following
a committee meeting this evening we have decided to move the Fairyhouse Saturday card to next Thursday in order to give the best possible chance of racing going ahead on Sunday.”
Apart from the significant graded stakes that are and will be taking place on this Thanksgiving weekend in the United States and the Japan Cup that will also kick off tomorrow, the Fairyhouse meets were also the hot topic of discussion
for those involved in the horse business.
On the other hand, the jump fixture that is scheduled to take place in Leicester on Sunday will be inspected on Saturday as the weather conditions throughout Great Britain are not conducive for the horse racing events this weekend.
The clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson is uncertain about the Sunday meet since the temperature in the country and the East Midlands has shown record breaking drops. The lowest temperature that has been recorded on Thursday night
was -7 degree Celsius. Talking to the correspondents on Friday morning, Stevenson was reported as saying, “We are not in as good a position as we were (on Thursday). It got down to – 7 degree Celsius last night and the forecast is not too good as it is supposed
to be similar tonight and on Saturday.”
Stevenson then further added, “The frost needs to come out of the ground by lunchtime on Saturday. It is still -3 degree Celsius and it depends what happens tonight.”
