Horse Racing: William Hill King George VI Chase now to take place on Monday
The much-anticipated event, which was scheduled to take place on the Christmas weekend, William Hill King George VI Chase, has now been abandoned after an inspection that was carried out by the clerk of the Kempton racecourse and
his officials this afternoon. The King George VI Chase has been moved a day ahead and now will take place on the 27th of December.
The event is still subject to another inspection that will be conducted by the management of the racecourse on Sunday at 2 p.m. Sports analysts and fans are indeed looking forward to the event since it will be featuring the superstar
racehorse Kauto Star, partnered with the remarkable jockey Tony McCoy. Kauto Star will be running in this edition of the meeting to claim the event for the fifth time. The Kempton meeting will also stage the williamhill.com Christmas Hurdle if it gets a go
ahead after the Sunday inspection.
After the Friday midday inspection, the clerk of the course Barney Clifford was reported as saying, “With temperatures forecast to rise to 3C on Monday morning, we are optimistic that racing will go ahead that day. Unfortunately,
there is no prospect that the milder air will arrive in time for Boxing Day.”
He further revealed that according to the forecast for tomorrow night, temperatures will go as low as -4C or -5C. Meanwhile, on the Boxing Day frosty winds will be coming around the southwest side. He continued to say that the
temperature will just stay at the freezing point on the night of Boxing Day until the 27th, which is an indication that the afternoon temperatures on Monday will be around 3C or 4C. He added if the temperature on Monday morning is 0C, the officials
of the racecourse will start taking off the frost covers from the track.
The turf of Kempton racecourse is still reported to be frost free, while the frost covers were being considered the only hope for preventing the track from freezing. Talking to the correspondents, Clifford said, “There is no frost
in the ground, but our protective covers are still frozen to the grass with some frozen snow on top of them, so we have no alternative but to abandon Boxing Day’s racecard.”
The eight race card on Monday has been scheduled to begin at 11.50 a.m., meanwhile the Christmas Hurdle will start at 2.40 p.m. and the King George has been revealed to kick off at 3.15 p.m.
