Horse Racing: Workforce will be seen running again
It was presumed by many sports analysts and those involved in the horse business that the four year old thoroughbred Workforce will be send to stand at stud after the colt missed the Breeders’ Cup Classic Turf event.
Workforce is the champion of Sir Michael Stoute’s Derby and Arc. The colt could be a part of the Turf event that took place on Saturday at Churchill Downs due to the surface of Kentucky (since it is a fast ground).
It has been announced by his connections that the racehorse will not yet be sent to stand at stud and his fans will see him run again and take over the field in the upcoming racing events.
The manager of the owner Price Khalid Abdullah, Teddy Grimthorpe talked about the colt and his importance to his owner and trainer, to The Racing Post. The manager was quoted as saying, “We have a horse who is very important to us. He is sizeable and
scopey, and racing him on too-fast ground for him at this stage – this would have been only his sixth lifetime start – well, his future career is too important.”
The manager went on to say, “Workforce will stay in training. He would not run again this year.”
So far, the thoroughbred racehorse has contended five races, four this racing season and one in 2009. Two of these events started by Workforce were won by him.
The winner of the Epsom Derby and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe was foaled in 2007. Sired by King’s Best out of Soviet Moon, the bay coloured colt has been trained by Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Morre has been is regular jockey in five of his career meets.
Workforce started his racing career at the age of two. The first race that was contended by the British thoroughbred colt was the Goodwood (as a juvenile) that took place on the 23rd of September 2009. He won this race by a distance of six lengths,
managing to hold off the second place finisher Oasis Dancer.
As a three year old, the racehorse finished second in the Dante Stakes held in York. He finished three lengths behind the winner Cape Blanco. The colt has earned 3,000,000 pounds in his racing career so far and will now be practising for the 2011 racing
season, after being drawn away from the Breeders’ Cup Turf event.
