Horse Racing: Zenyatta, a strong contender for the Breeder’s Cup Classic

Now that the richest day of thoroughbred racing is only three days away, Zenyatta is being claimed as the “brightest star of the Churchill Downs galaxy”.
The undefeated female racehorse and the owner of a world record nine consecutive Grade I victories, Zenyatta is once again all set to hold off all her male competitors like she did in the Breeders’ Cup Classic edition of last year. The six year old Kentucky
bred mare, will become the next superstar of the thoroughbred racing if she adds another victory to her undefeated streak of career meets. If she takes over the field at Churchill Downs, the Hollywood Park trained Zenyatta will confirm her position as the
best racehorse of the modern American Horse Racing arena. It will also be perfect conclusion to the talented mare’s racing career.
When the Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey was questioned about Zenyatta and her remarkable athletic career he said, “The greatest is a big word”, he went on to say, “Bur we would have to give it a long thought. To come back and win a Breeders’ Cup Classic
on the dirt, I think would be a magnificent feat. I don’t know if she is the greatest of all time, but she has got the greatest record of all time.”
On the contrary to what her fans and associates believe, the critics of the sport think that Zenyatta cannot be placed on the top of the thoroughbred racehorses. Most of them are building this argument on the point that Zenyatta has only contended two races
out of California. They also say that she has only encountered the best male competitors in one of her meets, that too on a synthetic surface. Despite becoming the first filly to clinch the Breeders’ Cup Classic 2009, she was the runner up to the three year
old filly Rachael Alexandra in the Eclipse Award voting for Horse of the Year.
Noting that her legendary filly has never been defeated on the racetrack, Zenyatta’s owner Jerry Moss said, “They beat her by proxy.”
The great racehorse’s last victory before the Breeders’ Cup Classic was the Lady’s Secret Stakes that was run on the 2nd of October at Hollywood Park. This was the 19th victory that Zenyatta claimed.
The upcoming event has flaunted Zenyatta more than any contender since this will be her last career meet.
