Top jockey of the Australian horse racing Industry, Stathi Katsidis was found dead in his house in Brisbane this morning. The industry was in shock and despair when the news was revealed to the media.
The police is still investigating and has not yet found the cause of death. However, there are no suspicious circumstances relating to the legendary jockey’s death.
Stathi was the regular jockey of Shoot Out. The horse is the contender of Cox Plate. For quite some time the jockey was known to be struggling with weight issues along with drug problems. It is also true that the jockey did not have any issues in the field
or his athletic career.
It took the jockey a lot of nerves and time to finally see his name in the list of the most high profile jockeys in the news His name was made a part of this list this year, since in the past he was constantly being confronted by problems of drug conviction
and drunk driving controversies.
The jockey is the known to be the brother of Michael Katsidis, the high ranked boxer and belongs to the Toowoomba family. The jockey, who victoriously rode Shoot Out in the $ 1.3 million AJC Derby at Randwick in April this year, was a resident of Brisbane.
Katsidis made it to the cover page of QWeekend Magazine (a project of The Courier Mail Newspaper) on this Saturday’s edition. This particular issue of the magazine elaborated on the efforts that the jockey made to overcome the problems in his life that had
rooted from drugs and alcohol. Moreover, it also gave the details about how he made his life style a positive one.
The article about Katsidi mentions that the jockey held the strict dieting plans required for the jockeys responsible for the problems that occurred to him. As a result of these diet plans, he adopted wayward behaviour that got him arrested for drunk driving.
The article also states that the jockey was tested positive for many banned chemicals including ecstasy and appetite suppressants, a couple of times.
"The thing with losing weight all the time is that it plays tricks with your mind", Katsidis told QWeekend.
The jockey, 31, was currently enjoying the best time of his career as he had also won the Magic Millions Classic on the Gold Coast Plate at Moone Valley this weekend.
