Question:

Horse Riding- Cantering

I have been doing horse riding, and had cantered once or twice.But am still a tad bit scared. will I get over this fear of catering or not really?? Am going to lessons with a qualified instructor.

  1. It just takes time.  Having only done it once or twice, it is perfectly normal to still be uneasy.


  2. It is definitely a confidence thing. Trust me, I used to give lessons to some of the girls in my barn and they were terrified of the canter. I started them out on a lunge line (so they just had to focus on the movement) and when they felt comfortable i took them off. Eventually all they wanted to do was canter. It just takes time and patience and confidence in your riding ability and in your horse. Don't rush it because it will come to you when you are really ready. It happens to everyone when they are first learning how to canter.
