Our rescue had lots of small pastures where the rescue horses were and the shelters were small, but now were moving to NY and aquiring a 75 acre pasture with 80 horses in it: How big should the shelter be and what kind of shelter should it be...we where thinking like a barn with doors all around that can be shut when we put the horses in there for bad weather. Any Ideas? PLEASE HELP!

Oh. and we hare scatering 3 sided shelters around the pasture.

  1. you should have barn for quaritine but the most economical option is a steal building. They range from 10-25k, and if you pick up galvinized steal gates and make stalls. you can slap 2 of these down and pack 40 in each. You can enclose it with either cement or siding as needed and as budget allows. These structures are safe, strong, and very easy to maintain. You can also get a small over hang, about 1.5k, and that can shelter 4-6 horses. you can also put hay wheels under them and protect the food and horses. It is nice in NY to have a place to sheild them from the wind. It can get wicked and horses not prepared do die. Snow is also an issue, so these scattered pole barns are good for horses who prefer outside and can't be in a stall.

    good luck
