  1. Yes U/S means under saddle But remember that some of the bigger shows have it where you have to go Into a Hunter class over fences and the u/s saddle classes

    Like a division.. so becarefull

but if it's a small show It means undersaddle

Ride your horse like a pleasure horse

Make sure he is soft on the bridle and is well balanced with a slight loose rein But looks   collected at the same time !!It will be judges on him not you

  2. U/S means Under Saddle.  Any class that says U/S means that they are judging the horse rather than the rider.  In ordinary classes that do not say U/S, it's an equitation class meaning the rider is judged on the way they look and how they can get the horse to perform.  Mostly the judge looks at your position but things like diagonals and leads are important.  In an under saddle class, you can look like an absolute blob... it's all about the horse.  You can post the wrong diagonal and you can hunch over all you want.  They look at the horses motion to judge how good of a mover it is and how it frames itself.  You want to get a good forward trot and don't interfere with the horse's motion.  In equitation classes you're likely to get some things like sitting trot... in under saddle it's just walk trot canter both ways... you posting trot and when you canter you'll want to keep a very light seat.  In equitation, remember to sit the canter.

At a lot of shows they have a division (like a 2' division)... within that, you'll have 2 jumping classes (so you'll have 2 courses) and a lot of times they have 2 flats... one is an eq to judge the rider, the other is an U/S to judge the horse.  So if you're riding over fences, you'll want to sign up for your division's flat classes as well.

They also have a jumping division that is just hunters... that means they're judging the horse.  If it says hunters or U/S it means they look at the horse.  You should sign up for the divisions that do not say hunters... those will judge how you look and perform and control the horse through your fences course.

    Good luck at your show!!
