I'm 15 and i'm looking for my second horse. I want a jumper[that can be beginner safe too] I have took jumping lessons but the last time I jumped was 3 years ago! I am trying to get back into jumping lessons[i've rode just not english really over these years!] I was a cheap horse[under a $1000] but i'm wondering what breed[if it matters] and what age[should the horse be?] i want to first start showing in local schooling shows after I do lessons for awhile. So I want a horse that has shown atleast once before....is it possible that there is a horse out there that fits my description?? and can stay under $1000 dollars? I live in maryland btw.

  1. -you might want to try a racehorse (Thoroughbred) that can longer race due to poor times.  I purchased one off the track and used him for my daughter's jumping lessons. He had the height and stamina to be a fine jumper. He was sold because he was a "bleeder" which meant that he could not run long distances, but as far a jumping prospect, he was ideal.  Look out for horses that may have foundered or had any bowed tendons.  Ask if the horse has ever been "pin fired".  A thorough Vet exam with x-rays are your best bet.

  2. hey there you can visit dreamhorse.com or other sites similar to this to find a particular horse that fits your budget and interest. just be careful some horses are not as broke as they are advertised. http://tonyonehorse.weebly.com tell a friend.

  3. Hope this helps!

  4. honestly, i suggest a paint or paint cross. They tend to be very honest over jumps and have great temperments. Also, they can sometimes be more built for jumping than a quarter horse and more level headed than a warmblood or tb. I have 2 paints and they are great all around horses and very fun, im 13 and have always gotten along very well with them!

And breeding stock paints tend to be cheaper, n hey if ya get a llitlle paint color how can it hurt?!?!?;))

  5. I don't know about the horse but for the clothing to show. You will need breeches, tall boots, show shirt, Show jacket, show pin, and a helmet maybe gloves too.

You will find your horse with a bit of searching maybe you can ask around and post adds in tack shops/ wanted adds or stables in the area.

Edit: As for breed it really doesn't matter don't look for breed. As long as the horse is sound and willing to do what you ask. Warm bloods are all pretty good for jumpers and the QH is a good all around horse too. As for age you said you would like a beginner friendly so generally not under 5 years old and since jumping is a high impact- hard on the leg joints sport probably something under or around 16 years. Though it can vary and its not a set rule I'm sure there are younger beginner horses and older still sound happy jumpers. Good luck on your search!

  6. Buy a Quarter Horse. They are lovely horses.

I STRONGLY advise to get a horse over 10.

If you can't find a horse in your price range, try leasing one.

As for show clothes, get a dark helmet, preferably black. You can get a used jacket off of eBay for cheap. Get some beige riding pants. The Kerrits brand is my favorite. You can pick up some cheap boots from Wal-Mart or something. Just make sure that they are plain black, have a heel, and have no designs on them.

  7. Thought you couldn't afford anymore horses and that is why you and your grandmother are trying to sell them...
