Question:

Horse Wound On Hind Leg Which Has Left Boney Enlargement (like splint)Any Cures?

Can any one help?

My horse caught the inside of his hind leg with the other hind hoof, causing a small but deep cut, which is healing nicely, but is going to leave a boney lump (like a splint). I am wanting to show the horse so I am looking for any advice on how I can reduce the size of the lump, either ointments or creams or if there are any treatments my vet can do?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Jo

  1. well the horse has to come before the show.call the vet, it sounds like a splint.could be more serious than it looks.

  2. DMSO is great for that kind of stuff. It helps break up the bump. Just be careful using it - you don't really want  to get it on yourself, so use gloves.

If you are into trying a new-age approach, try to find an infrared massager "laser"  (not actually a laser, but I'm not sure how else to describe it) We have used this on both horses and humans to take care of bone spurs, splints, and even just general soreness. It works really well! Here's a link to an example:
