I am in need of any body who has information on free lessons in Madison Ohio. I am 12 and would love to learn. But my mom has no money to pay for lessons. I love to be with horses and I just want to ride but, like I said we have no money for lessons.

  1. well i dont know about ohio, but i'm from long island and where i live you can't get free lessons. at my barn its $100 dollars per lesson. you should try getting a job at the barn grooming or tacking or something, and get your own money and pay for the lessons yourself.

  2. Sorry to burst your bubble, but there's no way your getting free lessons anywhere. However, you can go to a local barn and see if you can work there in exchange for lessons.

  3. you could try to work at the stable in return for free lessons

  4. You're not going to get free lessons.

You're going to have to work if you really want it.

  5. Some stables allow riders to work to pay for lessons. Most owners are glad to have some extra help cleaning tack, cleaning stalls, cleaning buckets, etc. Ask at a stable near you about working in exchange for lessons.

  6. I live in Madison too and it was hard for me to find cheap riding lessons. I checked all over for the cheapest, at the most I was allowed a $20 lesson. My family doesn't have the money either, especially now that my mom can't work anymore. But we did find a place in Perry, it's called Roosevelt stables. I know you may not have the money but Judy )the instructor) is a very good instructor, and she's a perfectionist. I would recommend going there. We only have to pay $15.00 for a half hour lesson, and thats for a private lesson. Judy's the cheapest place that was close by. Theres people who work there and get their lessons free. I don't think she needs help now though because I've asked but yeah. that's the cheapest place if you are allowed a little but of money for lessons. We go every other week too so that would be good to save up money for the next lesson. It's what I do.

  7. My old barn and my current trainer does this. You have to take at least one lesson a week, then you can work off (mucking, tackup/untack, help make feed, help feed, etc etc) another ride or two.

Lessons where I live vary in range. My old barn did $35 dollars a lesson, my current barn either does half a lesson= 35 or a full hour= 50.

I would suggest looking in the phone book, searching online and asking friends about their barns, and find barn numbers, then call and talk to the owner.. See if you can work something out.

Horses are expensive, unless you very lucky, your not getting free lessons. You might have to pay for one every other week, but get a free one here and there.

  8. Most stables will allow you to work in return for lessons, ask around at your local stables and find out.

    Good luck!

  9. I don't think that you can go to a stable and ask to work for lessons.  Most trainers that I know give that choice to students that they've had for awhile, especially if the student or their family is having a hard time paying and the student would have to stop taking lessons if they couldn't earn them.  Lessons are expensive and a lot of people would try to take advantage of a deal to make it cheaper.

See if your local stable offers camp days or days that they have a lot of people taking lessons together.  Those lessons tend to be cheaper than a lesson by yourself.  Perhaps you can do things for your mom to earn money that way...it may take a while since she doesn't have much but that way  the lesson will mean more since you earned it.
