I am heading to May 17th Preakness... I am waiting for the post standings on Wednesday to read up on the horses and such. But, how do I bet? I did a mock bet on the kentucky derby, just to see. I did good, but now its with $. Can someone tell me the best way or a website that will help explain it?

Thanks

  1. Big Brown will most likely be "Even Money" or less meaning;

    the Preakness will not pay very much!

    So I suggest to play a trifecta thats the first three horses in order that finish; or a superfecta thats the first four horses that finish.

    A $2.00 Tri-Box with three horses cost=$12.00; thats Taking three horses all together as one bet.

  2. well i am from ireland but from what i know in the states u go up to the betting booth give the name of the horse and the stake u wish to bet on either win only place (1st/2end) or show(1st /2end/3rd) and best of luck

  3. Magnum gave you a great answer.

    If you're at the track you're betting at and you're betting on the next race, you don't really need to say which track and which race.  So if you're betting at Pimlico right before the Preakness is going to be run, you can just say how much $ you want on which horse.

    If you want to do exotics, remember to say if you want them boxed or in a wheel.  If you're doing a trifecta wheel, you'd say: I want a $1 trifecta wheel with the 1 and 2 over the 1, 2 and 3 over the 1, 2 and 3.

  4. When go to the window you say:

    Name of the track (churchill)

    Race Number (10)

    $ amount (5)

    bet (win)

    program number (20)

    This is what you would have said if you had bet 5 dollars to win on Big Brown in the derby.
