  1. According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, it's Ocala and the surrounding area in Marion County.

.....but there's still some doubt. See link for info:

  2. i think it's...norco, california....it's horse capital u.s.a.

even the signal lights are built for people on horseback

and many of the streets have trails instead of sidewalks....

  3. What  like World Series Baseball...its actually just American.  Anyway, I might be biased but I think Melbourne is the horse racing capital of the world. We have a four day carnival called the Melbourne Cup carnival which is coming up next week. Horse Racing's huge here. I went to one of those four days last year, Victoria Derby day and there were over 130,000 people in attendance. There was over 400,000 people in attendance over the four days (in a week long carnival). We even get a public holiday for Melbourne Cup Day!!! Now what other place in the world gets a public holiday for a horse race meeting?!

  4. Hilarious. The arrogance of you yanks astound me. The world extends outside the borders of the US you know. Why dont you ask your question for what it is. The best track in the US

As for the world, Newmarket in England is definitely more of a horse capital than any of your yank tracks. The Curragh in Ireland and Longchamp in France would have more history and prestige as well. Flemington in Melbourne, Australia would see more people on average attend their meetings than any track in America.

I would say Newmarket in England would be the capital as this track would be the father of modern day racing.

  5. bang! thatll be Newmarket UK then.

  6. I am from Canada and up here in Canada we say it is lexington, kentucky

  7. Lexington, KY touts that they are the horse capitol of America.  Ocala is only really big in the winter.    However, if your talking the world, China has the highest number of horses, so you could argue they are the horse capitol of the world.

  8. I agree that Newmarket is the center of the thoroughbred world.  There's just no place like it.

For the United States, it is Lexington, Kentucky.  My best friend did her equine surgery externship at Rood & Riddle Hospital.  She traveled a couple of times during that year to Ocala, and says that Ocala is a pale shadow in comparison to Lexington.

  9. I vote for Newmarket - there has been racing there for over 300 years and it has a straight turf course of 1m2f.  It is the turf HQ in England and the National Horseracing Museum is located there.

  10. NEWMARKET, NEWMARKET, NEWMARKET!

Come on guys, Newmarket is known as The Home of Horseracing and Headquarters.  Racing first started here in 1622 and the first race run "under rules" was run in 1665 The Newmarket Town Plate, it is still run to this day!

There is a greater concentration of racing related industry in this town than ANYWHERE ELSE ON EARTH!  We currently boast:

2 World-class Grade 1 racecourses (The Rowley Mile and The July Course)

    Over 2500 racehorses in training

    Over 80 licensed trainers

65 stud farms including the National Stud and the

powerhouse of Sheikh Mohammed’s breeding empire, Dalham Hall Stud

2800 acres of fully maintained training grounds

    50 miles of turf gallops

    17 miles of artificial gallops

Original home of the Jockey Club

Palace House, the 17th century royal palace that was the Newmarket home of Charles II.

    National Horseracing Museum

    British Racing School

Tattersalls Sales, the biggest horse sales company in Europe

    Animal Health Trust

    Horseracing Forensic Laboratory

    Thoroughbred Breeders Association

    International Racing Bureau

    Racing Welfare

    Federation of Bloodstock Agents

Plus the country’s top equine veterinary practices and equine hospitals, saddlers, farriers, equine transport companies, etc.

Not bad for a tiny town in the back of beyond!
