  1. It is not advisable.  Take a handful of wheat and chew it up.  Keep chewing....It turns into something with the consistency of chewing gum.  I'm not kidding here.  Raw wheat is hard to digest because of this and though it can be used it is not advisable for horses.

I chewed a lot of wheat right out of the field when I was a kid.

  2. You can feed them wheat bran, but not wheat apparantly.

If you dont want to feed oats because they are making your horse exictable, you can feed barley which is similar in nutrition, but you have to prepare it every day yourself. Horses like warm barley in their feed.

  3. I would not recommend it. If your horse is too energetic from the oats, you can try a low protien or low sugar grain mix such as a senior mix or buckey safe n' easy. If you are trying to put weight on your horse, make sure it has pleanty of hay available at all times and you could add up to 8oz of corn oil or coco soya per day to its feed (oats/grain or whatever) other more expensive ways to go are weight builder though i would reccomend the TSC dumor weight gain because it is the EXACT same thing and it is cheaper.

  4. I personally, wouldn't feed him wheat. I also woldn't feed him

corn oroats exclusively. The reason being, they are an unbalanced feed. Their calcium to phosphorous ratio is out of synch. The ratio should be 1-11/2 to1. Corn and oats both have far more phosphorous than calcium. ! would feed a good quality sweet feed. As for him being excitable, I would look for the cause. Perhaps, he spends too much time in his stall. You might feed less grain and more hay.

                                Good luck.

  5. If you are just looking for a way to fatten your horse up, use corn oil or beat pulp, both are excellent for weight gain.

    hope this helps.

  6. Wheat is a high allergen so i wouldnt.

I dont know that it would do the alot of harm in very small amounts but i wouldnt.

Your not supposed to feed oats alot either though because they are heating and can make a horse very excitable.

  7. My horse lived on 3cups oats two times a day and all the hay he could have, and didnt "over heat or over excite him".

Wheat - NO I would not recommend it.  Allergys..

    fyi:

If you feed a sweet feed too much then you will have problems with over excitement....
