  1. We just put up electric fencing last year and I bought the Horseguard fencing

    http://www.horseguardfence.com/

I LOVE it.  It's easy to see, easy to install, stands up to the wind, and is fairly cheap.  They also have a calculator on their website so you can tell them about your acreage and they calculate the supplies you need...and it does a very accurate job.  We run ours off a solar unit (like $80 or something, easy to find on the Internet) and it is essentially maintenance free.  Another cool thing is you can set it up a couple of ways.  For example, we have 3 strands.  We have it set up so that you have to touch two to actually get shocked.  So it's nice that if the dogs run under it and touch it with their tail, they don't get zapped.  or if someone walks up to it and grabs it, they don't get zapped.  But if a horse pushes against it, they get zapped because they will end up touching two strands.

  2. A great website I found for equipment and tack is Valley Vet Supply. They sell tack, vaccines, and fencing. Their website is http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_equine.html

Just encase your looking here's a great website for wholesale tack. They don't sell fencing though...

    http://www.tackwholesale.com/

Both have catalogs that can be sent to you via mail.

    Good Luck

  3. i bought mine @ Atwoods

  4. Home depot would be a good place to look, the electric fencing that they have tells you how powerful it is and what kinds of animals it is used for. Their prices are pretty reasonable too. You could probably find some at any of the staple hardware stores (assuming you are in the U.S) so you can shop around. If you google it online check the prices there and at the stores and pick your price, but don't forget to add on the shipping charges.

  5. I have 4 strand barbless wire, with one strand on black/yellow braided wire for hotwire set in about 5" from standard fence.  This has proven to work well for my horses.  I buy all our fencing material at Orscheln's.  They are about the same as other farm supply stores, and they have an awards card system where you get checks in the mail every quarter for about 2% of what you buy.  It doesn't seem like much...but every little bit counts!! Plus they have "moonlight madness" sales for members where you can get 20% off.

    Good luck!

  6. I too bought my electric fencing supplies @ horseguard.  The tape is wide & heavier duty, than anything comparable I have seen at Tractor Supply or my local fencing supply store.  Their tape is also available in white, green, & brown to 'customize' your ranch, or coordinate with existing fencing. The T post covers complete the look/safety of the fencing!

They also have ingenious 'set offs' for wire fencing and posts that I have found to be 'priceless' - but not without cost.. :O)

I would whole heartedly recommend them!

  7. We buy everything at TSC...we just have basic electric fence around our pastures, and as long as you have a high-voltage power source, your horses should leave it alone.  good luck!

  8. Um... Are you in the USA or UK???

Speedgate has good branded tape and great prices!!!

This battery is great and as just enough voltage to get my Clydesdale Mares backed off!!!

  9. a trainer that i worked with  in 2006 used ribbon. it works great! it is about an inch wide, so the horse can see it well, and is less likely to run into by mistake. I have no idea what she paid for it though. i helped her put it up, so i know it was simple to install.
