So my horse club is having a few fun classes at our next show in order to raise money for the club. I am incharge of comming up with some fun classes. These classes can include horses or not! Some suggestions i've gotten have been: carrot trail, egg and spoon race, bareback dollar, boot race, and others. We are going to do several, so i need suggestions! It needs to be something all ages can participate in, and of course it needs to be FUN! thanks!

  1. how about a old fashioned cake walk?  great fund raiser and easy because absolutely anyone can play.  with or without a horse.

Wash  day races.  - Run or ride to the other end of the arena where a clothes line is set up with over lots of different sized shirts/pants   put a set on and race back.. Funny to watch and we got clothes from goodwill for free that were to riped for them to sell

  2. http://nzpca.org/new/rules/games.php

You can find about 100 games with rules under NZPCA team mounted games 2006

Here are some of the favorites where I ride:

Musical Stalls: The poles on the jumps are arranged on the ground and the horses trot around them in a circle while music plays. When the music stops, the horses and riders have to get in a "stall". After a horse is elimenated, a stall is removed.

Pepsi Challenge: Riders carry a glass of Pepsi on their horse. As the competition moves on, you walk, trot, and even canter. When the time is up, the riders with the most soda in their cups win.

Pole Bending Race: A race at the walk or trot around an obstacle course to the end of the ring. The first rider to complete the course wins.

Ribbon Pairs: Two riders walk, trot, and canter holding a ribbon between them. The last pair holding the ribbon wins.

Costume Class: Riders dress up themselves and their horses. The categories are "Most Beautiful", "Funniest", and "Most Creative", but you can make up other categories.

Simon Says: "Simon" gives commands (walk, trot, and canter around the ring) and the riders must do it immediately. The last rider remaining wins.

The winners got a jumbo chocolate bar.

  3. at our county fair we have a alot of fun games! :-)

u mentioned some of them. others are pie eating contest, its were you have a team of 1 horse and 2 people. 2 plates of a slice of apple pie are set on tables at the other end of the arena and you race down to it. The person eating the pie has to have their hands behind their back and the horse gets the other plate. Who ever eats both plates of pie  and crosses the finish line(both people and horse) first wins. If there are lots of entries you can break them down into divisions and take the winners of each division and have them race against each other.

Another games is costume contest. Horse and rider dress up, and they have to have a name stating what they are. The crowd desides who wins (by the loudness of the cheering).

Theres also red light, green light. and a water game were theres 4 on a team and each person gets a cup, theres barrels down at the other end of the arena (one barrel to each team) with a bucket of water in it, and something to scoop up water with. its sort of like a relay. Then theres another barrel were they start, with a bowl on top to pour the water they got in the cup, at least what stayed in the cup, into the bowl. Which ever team to get the most water in the bowl in a certain amount of time wins!

hope i helped, have lots of fun!!

  4. Well one game i played during a show at my last barn was like a relay race. They referred to it as gymkhana, but it was a much easier version. You put ground poles in a zig-zag line to where it makes a little path, and you have to trot your horse through that, then you pick up a hat (while on the horses back) and have to toss it into a bucket. then you dismount, you have to bob for apples, and once you get one, you run the to another bucket where you'll drop the apple in. Then you have to run back to the start where you'll jump over little horse jumps (not actually on the horse) and the first player back wins.

Then my barn did the fastest times for the pairs and they gave out ribbons.

    i hope this helps ♥

  5. The pop race-

you have to run down on horseback then drink the whole cup of pop(dixie cup)and run back

  6. The Water Game - Rider holds a dixie cup of water while riding their horse. The announcer or judge tells them to walk, trot, canter, back up, stop, etc. If you spill all the water in your cup you are out. The person with the most water in their cup wins!

Magazine (Telephone book) Rave - The rider is given a page number to find in a telephone book by the announcer/judge. Then he/she rides from one end of the arena to the other as fast as they can. Then once at the end of the arena, they hop of the horse, find the page, rip it out, get back on the horse, and ride as fast as possible back to the starting point to hand the page to the announcer/judge. This is a timed event so who ever has the fastest time wins.

  7. At camp, when it's rainy, we ride bareback in the indoor ring. We do a lot of fun games like musical stalls and relay races.

For musical stalls, put jump rails down on the ground in two rows of rectangles back to back with open fronts for however many players you have. Like this:

    |_|_|_|_|

    |    |    |    |    |

So apply the rules to musical chairs to this. One horse per stall, no walking over poles.

For relay races, divide into two teams. Make an interesting course involving serpentines, getting off and on your horse/pony, and maybe a small crossrail if you ride english. The riders ride through the course away from their team and then canter back (without going through it). You could have them then do it in reverse, if you want. Then everyone else does it. First team to finish wins. You could have a harder course for older, more experienced riders and one for beginners.

You could also have a water relay. There are two teams and at one end of an arena, there are two big buckets filled with water. You give each team a plastic cup and they have to ride their horses over to the bucket, fill their cup, carefully ride their horse back and fill up another bucket to a certain level. First team to finish wins.

  8. Get some livestock markers, and see who can decorate their horse the best!!! Be sure to do it at the end so you can wash the marker off right away.

  9. For western-  Hat throw or rope toss.  Participants throw their hats or a rope at targets, the one who hits the target wins.

  10. catalog race - big magazine on barrel pick page number run down rip it out cross timer fastest one wins

izzy dizzy- run down to a bat do 15 circles with forehead on bat and bat and ground get back on and fastest time wins.

Diaper Race- team of two a row of ten run down and put on a cloth diaper get back on first one wins

Ribbon Race-team of two on horse back run around the arena like flag fastest times wins

    Apple bobbing- self explanatory

  11. Hey another fun one that we do all the time is musical sacks. It's just like musical chairs only its on horse back and you use gunny sacks instead of chairs. The last person left without a sack is out of the game. There is also c**p paper pairs. It's like working pairs only you and your partners wrist are tied with c**p paper about 3 foot long. When paper breaks that team is out. If your having trouble getting down to the last team you can have them shorten their paper by so many inches. Both those are fun games.

  12. BAT RACE!!!!! ps u dont need to use bats...

you have how many bats you need(1 bat or something per person) and people get on their horse, walk down to the bats, get off the horse, put the bat or somehting on your forehead and keep the bat on the ground and run around in circles 5 times. then get on your horse and trot or canter back!! its pretty fun!!
