  1. Gelding is a simple, cheap, and quick surgical procedure. The gelding procedure will be done at your barn and the cost will vary from vet to vet but you can expect to pay from about $40 to $60 for the vet's call fee and from about $150 to $200 for the ketamine knock down and gelding surgical procedure. I have a large padded knock down stall in my barn that my vet can use for surgery but you really just need a suitable space cleared of anything that might injure the horse during the knock down.

Here are some photos of the surgery:

  2. The procedure is pretty quick.  Cost is about $40-$80 depending on where you live.  You will probably have to take the horse to the vet unless you have a mobile vet in your area.  It should cost the same no matter how big or small the horse.

  3. idk about price. i think they may be able to come and do it. but i hear its very gross.  probably a good fifteen min

  4. it cost me 400 but my vet is insanely priced

  5. Price depends on your area. Horse / pony costs are the same. The gelding process is quick and the vet can do it at your house, however your gelding will be sore for a while in any case.

  6. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO???????

You realize that gelding a horse (or any animal) turns them into an eunich??????

There is NO reason to do it, it does not change the overall biological features of the horse other than to eliminate vital hormones!!!!!!!  Good grief, join humanity and DO NOT DO IT!!!!  It is like female circumcision in the middle-East !!!!!!!

  7. depends on the area and if it is going to a hospital.  In Connecticut it is( in my area) $200 for a stallion in general( i need it for a mini) but in Rhode Island or if you trailer up to Tufts University its $100 and under.

  8. the price for a horse or pony all depends on where you live and what type of training the horse or pony has. A horse can be more expensive or cheaper than a pony and the same thing for a pony. A vet cant do segery at your stable they have to go to the vet clinic and do it because they have everything there they need and its not safe to do it at your stable

  9. The price depends on where you live.  In CT, it cost me nearly $500.  The vet was able to come out to the farm and perform the procedure, before fly season.  As the colt gets older, this procedure will be more difficult as the blood supply increases, and so surgery would more likely be performed in the clinic.  Other factors also determine where the surgery will be performed.  If the colt has an undescended t******e, a more major surgery in a clinic will be needed.  I have a colt right now that didn't descend, and the vet can feel no opening for it.  We are giving him until to fall to see if anything happens on its own, (past fly season) if not then he will go to the clinic.

  10. ours was like 150$ and he came to us and it took about a half hour or so,in the long run it would be better for you to have one gelded because they can be mean and also because they can cause damage so it would be cheaper to geld them then to pay for the fence that he breaks to get to the mare that he beats up that you have to pay for the vet bills....

I agree with katie, Wonderlust Weirdness is WRONG,when they have spent a few minutes with a sexually frustrated, angry, mean, bad tempered stallion, then an hour with a sweet loving gelding,THEN they can say attempt to defend their post, but not before.

  11. Wonderlust Weirdness has no clue what s/he is talking about. I think it is the same price with a horse or pony. And is anywhere from $80-150. In my area the vet does it on the property if the barn has the right facilities.

  12. They can be either 0-500,000 or even more.  My Mom knows someone who spent 500,000 on a horse.  I know it sounds crazy, but some people do it.

  13. About 10 years ago I purchased a stallion and had him gelded.  I don't recall the exact cost perhaps around $200. and it was done at the barn in his stall.  Because of his age, and how fully developed he was, it did take more time to heal and was a little messier.  But the results were worth the effort although he always had that "studly" attitude.  I would just recommend doing it as young as possible for quicker healing and a more "mellow" gelding.  But that was my experience.
