  1. It all depends on the horse. How much instuction did he receive earlier in life? Who was the trainer? Was the instruction properly inforced? Did the trainer train him correctly, and what is he trained to do? What is the horse like? Is he a fast learner, stubborn, what? You are being waaaaay to general to get an accurate answer. I suggest that you either give us more or find out yourself by actually getting down to the barn. And, also, why has this horse been neglected for a year?!?!?

  2. No! I started riding a pony that hadn't been ridden in 3 years and had 2 foals. It's true that she was terribly out of shape, but I didn't have to go through all of her basic training again. I just took my time getting her back into shape, and she was fine! Horses don't forget those things. And now she is leased out to an 8 year old. (:

  3. A COUPLE OF MOUNTS AND YOU WILL BE BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN!

  4. try to see how it is doing on a lung line, then work on what you need to do.the training depends on how  much he forgot

  5. You certainly have to train him again, but this time he'll probably catch on a lot faster.  When horses don't get worked for a long time, they tend to forget things... and it will be particularly bad for a young horse that wasn't worked very much in the first place.  If a 15 year old well trained horse gets a year break, it will remember very easily because they had so much prior experience.  For a young horse, it was only in training for 1 or 2 years before its break so it doesn't have as much experience and they may not have learned the cues that well in the first place.  It'll depend a lot on the horse and how much training it really had before the break.

  6. it depends... lunge him and see how he reacts if he is ok and doesnt buck or anything get some1 to hold him and you lie across him if him still doesnt mind hop up and see if he'll walk on... he should remember stuff if its only bin a year
