If I was to have an area to give horse lessons, how big should it be? Not including stables and stuff, just the area fenced in for lessons... and then a seperate size for how big a pasture should be like.. so many square feet per horse or something?

It  matters most what you are teaching and how many students,..and what you can afford. 20x40' is pretty basic, twice the length as the width. A pasture rule is 2  horses per acre on rotated grass. So for 5 horses, 4 acres will do with barns, runs and a decent double pasture you can use every other few days ro allow the grass to recover.Bigger really is better, and the most impotent part of your horses' environment is the muck heap's location. You can work it out on paper first and save a fortune, and remember to apply for all the building permits way in advance. Luck!

  2. I give lessons in a 20m X 60m arena and think it works pretty well.  You may want a smaller round pen though if you are thinking of doing more beginner lessons.
