Horse lorry help 3.5 tonne (also asked in horse category)

Question

I'm looking to buy a 3.5 tonne VW horse lorry (or similar, not "van" type box though) in the near future to transport my 14.2hh pony (upgrading from a single trailer) passed my test post 97 so this is all I can drive at the moment.

Anyway I was wanting some help on running cost especially tax and what sort of age vehicle to go for (is the tax charge increasing as it is fo 4x4s?) and what is a realistic budget!
