Horse lovers, if you could have any.....?

since i'm home sick and bummed out i figured i'd ask everyone an easy/instersting question about what they'd like (so there cant be no wrong answers!)

question(s):

if you could have any amount of land (money no limit/issue) how much would you have?

how many horse's (try to be alittle realistic, 40000 horses is alot, lol) would you have?

what would you do with the horses( show, event, trail, ect)?

would you grow your own hay/have a working farm, or would you just spend all the time with the horses/livestock instead of planting/harvesting?

and anything else you'd do with your dream farm?

note: this is just meant to be fun/hear what other's think of as the "perfect" farm, so be nice and have fun with the answers.

thanks!

  1. My dream farm/ranch would be like 400-600 acers.

    I would have 40- 50 horses and about 50 - 60 cows.

about 10 different big fields to keep the livestock in. I would use the horses to work cattle, trail ride, and do contesting. I would make my own hay and bale it all for my livestock. I would have a big barn with nice stables. and an arena to work the horses in. I would sell my horse when they got good enough to win or good enough to do what I would like. I would have a big house also. This farm is going to be out in the middle of no where some open fields but also some wooded areas. = )

  2. 1. as much as possible, but only out west with mountains or flint hills

    2. 4...friesian, andalucian, akhal teke, and any compition level horse

    3. just trail with the first three and hunter/jumper/event the last one

    4. working farm all the way, grow my own food too!

    5. built an awesome house on it

  3. I have been a horse lover since I was seven years old.  I have two Arabian horses, that I raised from day one (saw one born and the other I missed).  I had an Arabian stallion and mare.   They both died.  The two babies that I have had are now 27 and 22 years old.  Both getting up there.  But to answer your question.  I have thought of a dream farm forever.  I would like to have probably 100 acres and yes, I would have part of that as hay growing fields.  I would love to own 20 Arabian horses and have them shown in various events.  I would also love to have an indoor arena large enough for training and shows.

  4. I would have 1032 acres.

I would have about 25 horses and maybe a few ponies for taking little kids on pony rides

I would trail ride the horses and use some of them as lesson horses, starting beginner riders in the ring and then going out on trails.

I would have a working farm where I would raise 2-3 different types of hay, have a small herd of cattle, some laying hens, a couple of pigs, and a lot of dogs, but my main focus would be on the horses.  If I could have this, I would hire someone to take care of the hay and other animals.

I would like my farm to have a partial border with a national park where there are hundreds of miles of trails and would use that section of the farm as a campground for horse people...albeit a small campground.

    This was fun!

  5. I would have 100 acres 50 cleared and 50 for trails :)

Umm...about 5  of my OWN between 2 - 15 in training and a good amount boarding :D (I would save MOST of them from auctions, PMU foals, or other but SOME would be well bred and promising xD)

I would show them in Hunter/Jumper or whatever the paticular horse seemed to fir better (like if it is more of a collected easily trainable I would try and find a dressage home for it or if he likes to "MOVE" and loves jumping I would send him to an eventing trainer etc.)

I wouldn't plant/harvest I would jsut train and keep my grounds nice and tidy :)

I would have a nice home situated on a nice lush, green hill with a paved road leading from my automatic gate to the barn (and a little branch off to my house) on each side would be white fencing full of pretty horsies. The road would lead to the hunter green and white barns (my house would be the same color) The barns would each have 15 stalls (45 total) Attached to the schooling barn would be a large covered arena. Here the paved road ends and a small winding dirt path lead to the two rings...one large and lighted for jumping,  one smaller for lounging and schooling young horses/riders, and a good sized field behin them for bigger jumps or cross country. Keep going don the dirt path and it gets narower (horses pastures still on both sides) and finally it leads you to multiple trail pathes. Some short and less scarey for cooling your horse down, and some long and tiring (the longest leads to a beautiful lake perfect for you and your horse to swim in or have lunch on the grassy area) I would also have the best trainers in the WORLD to help me have the best possible horses ^^

    I love dreaming haha

  6. 1. 2 Sections(square miles) in northern Nevada

    2. 10 breeding stock for show, another 20 for work on the ranch, cuz I will have cattle, alfalfa, barley, corn, oats etc.

    3. Quarters, Paints, Appy's

    4. Show cutting, reining and snaffle bit futurity

    5. I think I answered that in question 2, I guess I should read ahead in the questions so that I don't preanswer. Ha

    6. Raise cattle and enjoy the Ruby mountains

  7. I would have about 50-75 acres of land; much of it would be forest for cross county/trails, then paddocks and riding fields.

I would love to have about 4-6 horses, then a few ponies for fun.

I would try to do different things with different horses; trails, hunter, jumper, eventer, western..  lmao

I would probably make some of the land into hay fields, cause they're fun to ride through, and i might as well grow some hay.

I would have a large barn, and take on many boarders, or else it would get lonely.  : ]

  8. I think I'd like to have about 100 acres. That would give me plenty of room to build several barns and paddocks, indoor and outdoor riding rings, and still leave plenty of trails and such (maybe a cross country course?). I would have like 3 or 4 show jumpers for me, but I think what I would really love to do is adopt PMU babies and train/sell them. Or take in and rehabilitate neglected horses. It would make me really happy to be able to help out horses who would otherwise have hard lives. I wouldn't want to spend any time "working" the farm, and since I have all the money I want, I'll just buy everything I need and pay people to take care of stuff. The horses are my true love. I would probably adopt tons of dogs and cats too, since I have so much money and so much room :)

  9. i would love to have three horses and a lot of land to farm and trail ride and other great riding stuff. lol

  10. land would hav to b thoudands and thousands of acers

horses< 1 to 2 for my own riding and lots to hav runin

barrel race, pole bending and calf tie, goat tie and thats it

id try to do it  all (working)

id hav a barn FILLDED with horses, all quater, and mountains running through my place with a big log cabin at the top and everything as green as could b !!!

  11. Interesting...

Well Id probably just want 100 acres, I guess its enough for one person. Id also have, I dunno 3-5 horses all in my favorite colors and names. Um, Id trail with most of them and do jumping. Im not much into planting things, never had a green thumb or anything and my dream farm would have a nice barn and a nice house and itd just be nice. with nice stables too of course.

  12. my ultimate dream farm would be :

300 acres with 4 houses, 6 barns with 25 stalls each, 3 Olympic sized outdoor arenas, a full cross country course, 3 heated indoor arenas (with mirrors all around the wall) all private paddocks.

and around 150 of those acres would be a pasture for all of the boarders horses to retire , plus we would rescue horses from the track or auctions every week!

  13. It would be in New Zealand, perhaps down south or up north a bit. I'd have a river running through it, which would go through most of the paddocks. My house would be large and comfortable.

I'd have a BIG chunk of land, with paddocks, stables, arenas, cross country courses, jumping arenas, riding trails, yards, tack rooms and feed rooms... My paddocks would all be good solid wood fencing, no wires, except for the odd electric fence if necessary for extensions or greedy horses. They'd all be connected up to water so I could fill all the troughs without having to go out the the paddocks.

I'd have quite a few horses, with the majority as rescue horses, but I'd like some purebreds just because I'm curious as to comparing them. I'd also like 1 or 2 Kaimanawa horses from the round-ups, which I'd train myself.

I'd like to do a mix of things with the horses, try them with everything, see their strengths and weaknesses.

I'd spend all my time with the horses and other animals, maybe rehabilitate rescues and train Kaimanawas then adopt them out as pleasure horses.

I'd also have dogs, and of course land solely for them to play on. But of course they'd sleep inside if that's what they preferred. A few Samoyeds, a couple of retired greyhounds, a couple of pit bulls and some rescue mutts. Then I'd have some cats too, because I like cats and they'd hopefully keep the mice out of my feed room! :)

Also have a few PET sheep. Not for eating!

And a couple of bobby calves, saving from the slaughterhouse, and keeping as pets too.

All this means I'd probably need a bit of help, so assuming I had won lotto or something and had enough money, I would hire people for feeding animals and exercising horses, as well as people to do general property maintenance and to go and pick up all the stuff I need to look after my farm.

My place would also be environmentally friendly. Solar panels, little wind turbines, recycling, etc. I couldn't have such a big place then have it be so un-green.

Edit: Also, I would love to set up an RDA (riding for the disabled) on the property. I'd train up some of the horses for this sort of work but those horses could be used for other stuff too. I'd have enough money for everything, all the facilities, all the special tack and other gear. They'd have an indoor arena so they could ride in bad weather too, and they could go on trail rides. It's such an amazing organisation (I've been volunteering for 5 and a half years), the kids love it and really do benefit from it, and the volunteers, just seeing the beaming smiles when the kids are riding... it is priceless and so rewarding.

What an absolute dream that would be!! Thanks for asking the question.

If I do ever win lotto, I would so do this.

  14. 1. I think 50 acres would be perfect.

    2. I think 5 would be great.

    3. My horse would just be a pleasure/trail horse.

    4. My farm would be mainly a HORSE farm.

    5. One thing I've always wanted to do is rescue horses. I hope to gain enough knowledge while I'm young and in a few years start a rescue of my own. I don't think I would rescue just horses either. I would rescue cats and dogs and even pig and cows too.

Thanks for the 5 minutes of fun!

    God bless!

  15. 1.2,000 acres

    2.26 horses

3.Contribute of course,Save from slaughter regain there trust in humans, then sell, ride, ride, ride

4.Spend all my time with horses.

  16. lol well i always fantasize about building a rescue farm and rehabilitating horses and giving them a second chance and a new home.

  17. I've always wanted to build a farm to work with neglected horses, scared horses, and mentally and physically damaged horses, to help them survive and give them a second chance in life. I'd also use alternative remedies like Bach Flower Remedies, and aromatherapy remedies, and work with the horses not against them, giving them the choice to work with me or not.
