  1. i dont recommend buying a horse yet! you should start taking some lessons first see how much you like it, then if a really good opportunity comes along...go ahead! but do your research FIRST!

  2. Don't worry. Almost every girl goes through a "phase" of loving horses. First of all, a horse is pretty expensive. Unless you have a source of steady income, like a job or maybe allowence. You also have to have a field where the horse can exercise, run, and graze. Do your research first, of course. A horse needs about one acre to two acres each. Also, an average bale of alfalfa hay (DO NOT USE PURE alfalfa!) is about three dollars. You'll need about four a month, maybe more. An average country saddle costs about $1000, but I've seen some in newspapers for $300. A saddle blanket is about $500 to $200. A blanket, fly net, decent saddle, saddle blanket, bridle and harness will all cost you roughly about $500 or $600 if you play your cards right.

I've also seen horses for sale for about $100 to $500, but make sure you KNOW what a good horse is. Heathly, alert, playful, good build, ect. It is the horse's attitude, training level, and experience that counts, not the height, s*x, or color. Since you are a begginer, you will need an experienced horse, which may be a little more expensive.

Make sure you have time to spend with your horse and that you will stay devoted! That means spending time with it EVERY day, grooming him, riding him, making sure that he is used to you, ect. Some people unforturnatly buy a horse right away, without any supplies or knowledge, and then the "novelty" of having a new horse wears off after a while. A horse is a life time compainon. Make sure you treat him like that.

Anyway, please make sure you have the supplies, knowledge, and most importantly, the time to take care of a horse.

I recommend taking a Four-H class or a riding/care class for horses so you can decide wheather wanting a horse is what you really want and will take care of. Have fun then =D

Here are some websites that give you information about horses and how much more supplies is as well as vetrinarian approved health and care guidlines. Also, i've included some how-to grooming websites and some shopping webistes so you can get a feel about how much supplies at average contry stores. Hope I could help = )

  3. Try to find a local stable that might allow you to trade stall cleaning for riding lessons. If that isn't available some trainers will let you use their horses while you take lessons.

This will give you a good idea if horse ownership is for you. Also, as a previous poster said, they are expensive so be prepared for that. :)

  4. Ok first off you should know that is cost about $300-$600 dollars a month for a horse. Also a horse should have and open feild to graze in. They need lots of exercise.  Since you are a begginer make sure the horses temperment is low.
