250,000 dollars?? could you break it down in general what you'd spend the money one? (how many horses, saddles, farms, barns ect)

Note: This in NO WAY has anything to do with any other questions that may or may not have been posted. I want to see how far you can make your money go.

  1. I would probably get another younger horse, my horse is 19 and getting up there so we at some point half to think of selling him. My coach wants to buy him from me as a school horse. Then I would probably want to go tack shopping:) The save on board and such.

  2. Hello,

    My input:

I would build a heated covered full size roping arena!  Then we could play all year round on our ranch.

  3. I would add onto my 6 acres by buying 20 acres of the farm behind me (which is sitting idle).  The rest (if there is any) would go for fencing, a run-in shed, grading for a ring, and a child safe pony so my son's best friend can join my son's pony club.

  4. I would definatly buy land out in wyoming. It's really pretty out there. And of course make sure I had a big barn for my horsies! =] If I had anything left over I would save it.

    Great question!

  5. I need a new water trough for my mares.  That would be nice.

  6. id buy a car with 40k of the money and put aside 75k for gas for the next 3 years then put aside 30k for car insurance and repairs etc. then id buy lots of riding clothes and a new helmet with 5k of the money then id put the rest aside for the next 3 years of leasing a horse and shows and riding lessons.

  7. Here it goes!:

    (these are rough estimates)

$27,000- New college training in equine science (2yr)

    $15,000- A New Dessage horse

    $20,000- A new Jumper Horse

    $5,000- A New western/trail horse

$8,000- New Dressage and Jumping Saddle

$10,000- New tack- Bridals, Halters, Martingales, etc.

$1,000- Saddle Pads, half pads, etc.

    $1,000- Turnout sheets, blankets, etc.

$30,000- Boarding at jumping stable for 1 year- FULL BOARD

$30,000- Lessons for dressage and jumping for 1 year

$70,000- New 3 horse trailer with living quarters

$5,000- New riding clothes, show and training, including helmet

$5,000- New Grooming tools, shampoo, etc.

$8,000-MISC, any emergency situations, other problems.

Wow, i could spend much more!Lol

$15,000- New Shoes for 1 year

  8. i would find the PERFECT horse for me i would buy him/her and use a bunch of money for a nice saddle, bridle, blanket, grooming supplies etc. then i would save the rest of the money for board and vet and farrier etc.

figures the only reason i cant get a horse is that we dont have enough money. i wish i had that much money.......

  9. $250,000 ? - that's around £125,000 so not an awfully large amount ( lol)

I'd spend some of it it finishing up all the half done jobs, sorting out the tractor and replacing all the fencing and having a mains electric unit put in.

Then I'd get the stables revamped and finally get the auto waters working properly.

Then I might buy some farm equipment and stuff. Nothing outrageous - mounted harrows, baler and a wrapper come to mind. Doubt there'd be much left after that.

  10. Buy a F650 with a truck bed, custom gooseneck 4 horse trailer with full living quarters, 2 more horses and then hit the road.

  11. well first i would buy like ten arcres then have a house and a barn bulit then buy horses and an arena and allow people to board at the stables then if i had some money left i would buy a a nice horse trailer and a nice horse to do western performance shows

  12. well i would buy a horse that i absolutely love then spend some on the saddle cinch/girth bridle/hackamore and so on and save the rest for the vet and boarding and any special care or training the horse may need.

  13. I would spend 30,000 on 30 acres of land. 10,000 on a barn. 60,000 on 7 horses.5,000 on saddles, saddle pads, hackamores, bridles, etc. The last 45,000to pay for vet bills, medicines, more land ,or horses.

  14. buy a 12 year old horse.

    buy new tack

save some for vet, farrier, board

    maybe buy some landddd

    and trailorrr

  15. Wow.. that's quite a bit of money! I'd go buy the 16 acres of land that is bank-owned right now for 3k. Then buy one of those mobile homes you see on the truck beds and put it in a corner away from the street. I'd level off the about 5 acres of this land for the horses - A 20 stall barn with a small tack room on each side. Then I'd make 6 pastures for the horses that would be rotated. I'd put in automatic water dispensers, and lighting in the barn. I'd build one outdoor arena, and then a covered arena as well. I'd have a hot-walker which has the slots for the horses - instead of them being hooked up to the actual machine. I'd then buy as much medical materials I could - and hire someone to advertise me as someone who can take care of their horses while they are needing stall rest, medical problems, etc. I already have a few trailers, so I wouldn't buy those in case I need to trailer these horses to the vet in the middle of the night, etc. I'd also buy one of those 4-wheeler thingies that can pull a small wagon that you can put feed / manure / etc behind it. I'd probably level off another 2-3 acres and grow some veggies or fruit for myself and my family. Oh! I'd also buy a small tractor so I could grade the arenas when needed. Uhm.. *ponders* Hmm.. I can't think of anything else.. haha! And that would be the start of my dream business =)  I don't know how much that adds up to.. but it would be my life's dream-job <3

  16. I'd buy two really nice horses. The ones that are 50,000 a piece. Then I'd blow 100,000 on super nice tack and all those extras. You know, custom fitted to my horse with all that jazz. I'd get both an english and western saddle for both. And I'd get them fancy halters, with their names engraved. :] And probably boots, new blankets, and all that.

The last 50,000 I'd definitely save for shows/board/etc. I'd like to have it saved for an emergancy as well! But because I have 50k, I'd move to a really nice facility with excellent trainers.

Oh ya... 250k would be nice! lol

  17. Lol. I see absolutely NO connection to any posts. Really and truly. You are in the clear. ;)

I would buy land with pasture. Put a 5-horse barn on it. Fix my horse trailer up (I don't want a new one, just an old one with new aspects). Then use whatever I have left for winter feed, paying the farrier, any vet bills I might procure throughout a year, and if I still had money after that I would get myself that shiny new saddle I've been eying for sometime now.

  18. well.. i would go and buy (convince my family to buy...) the $150,000 farm i have my eyes on, a 3 stall barn, hay storage, already fenced pastures.. GREAT!  .. o, its got a nice house too.. lol

then, i would take in 2 OTTBs. (i already have one.. so there's 3 stalls)

-i want one that just needs a home.. a bowed tendon that's too bad or a bone chip, just to give one a home since i love them so much and i worry what happens to the ones that can't be raced, ridden, or bred [=  and i want another to train as my upcoming project horse since my guys getting on in years. I want something nice, like the ones i never even bother looking at since i know i couldn't pay that..

so that would be, say $5500 more out..

Then i would buy enough hay for winter, buy tack and blankets for the new horses (and some my older horse) and save the rest for emergencies, hay and food for upcoming years, farrier bills.. enough to feel comfortable having 3 horses and being ready to take care of a young unrideable TB and an older TB until both live out full lives.

  19. I'd buy all the Paints I have fallen in love with while looking for horses.

And then buy lots of pretty tack for them. xD

  20. I would pay off all my debt.  I just had to sell my horse because i couldn't really afford him any more, after graduating college and now having to pay back all my loans.  So then i could afford one again.  Then i would try and buy back my Sunny. That would would leave me with $200,000.00.  Assuming that i would have to buy him back at almost Tripple what my mom sold him for.  But he did go to a good home that's why we sold him so cheap, we knew he would be taken good care of.  Then i would invest half the money, so that latter on i would get more money back.  $100,000.00 would pay for his expenses for quite a while.

You wouldn't be able to be a farm for $250.000.00.  YOu could buy quite a fe horses.  But that all depends on what type and their training.

And you could the nicest type of every saddle, Huntseat, Saddleseat, western, and Dressage.

  21. I would invest my money is something that I know people are never going to stop buying. LIke beer. I would invest half of my money in that and then I would put the other halfin savings. I would take the money form my shares and stocks and buy horses, a farm, lessons, ect. That way I would never run out of money. Unless the stock market crashed.

  22. Well I would take it and invest it.......you can make a considerable amount of money of 250,000, at the moment I dont really need anything I would wait some time, then I would borrow money from the bank, use my investment as collateral and buy the facility I really wanted...as of now im leasing. And st the rest aside for the future.

  23. I would buy a house with about 20 acers and up then i would buy a really good barrel racing horse and a few other decent horses

  24. i would buy a good peice of land and barn, i already have the only horse i need, even tho i own 3 of them

  25. I would most likely spend it on a VERY NICE horse for around $50,000 and then spend another $10,000 on everything I'll need.  The rest I would just save for boarding, vet, and farrier fees. :D

  26. Well, I have retired after 20 yrs of being a Paralegal

and if you handed me 250,000.00, I would pack my show trailer and hit the road for full time Western Pleasure shows, I would go till the money ran out.

I would use it for showing fees, travel and lodging expenses...this would do it nicely, then I would retire from showing and just sit home, after a fulfilled dream of doing nothing but showing Bullet my Arabian, full force, full time, non stop

when can I expect your check to arrive.....ha ha

  27. Hmmmm....ahhhh, the perpetual lottery dream, which I have on a regular basis.  I'm perfectly happy with the horses I have, but I would like to have a better barn for them, so that would be first.  A modest 6 or 8 stall barn, built on higher ground that wouldn't get wet every time it rains.  That would be nice.  A wash/grooming/vetting area, perhaps even with stocks would be good too, and a small tack/storage area.  Yep, that would be very nice.  Pay off some debts so I wouldn't have to work so much and have more time for my horses, yeah, that would be good....and if there were enough left over, a nice big international toter to pull my trailer.  Or perhaps on a more modest scale, a big dually F-450 Powerstroke with 4 doors, 4WD, and a western hauler package.  Um hum.....

  28. I would keep what animals that we have and leave a trust fund, if our animals live longer than either of us do, to take care of them.  We have 7 rescue animals who would otherwise either have been put to sleep or their last breath used on the streets of Dallas as carriage horses, and my husband and I both agree that they have certainly given us more than we could ever have given them.  They have added a meaning to our life and that is everything.

I maybe would spend enough money to construct a good barn for our existing animals and put in trust, unless we needed it sooner to take care of them, the balance to take care of our animals as long as necessary.

  29. I would get about 45 acres of land and build a nice new barn and indoor arena. I would include an outdoor and a dressage arena. Plus about four or five different pastures. I would offer board. When i'm done with that I would buy my own horse then about 6 horses for lessons. I would then buy tack for the horses. Any left over is left over to be saved.

  30. I would buy three horses, seven ponies, a barn, and a few caretakers, and 50 acres of land.....I think I need more money....

  31. Okay!

Well I would first build a small 6 stall horse barn with lights and heat/AC and a tack room for about $50,000 on the 16 acres that we already own maybe buy a few more acres...

Build a fence for a pasture! Already got a tractor to mow and stuff... I will build a indoor arena that's heated/AC and then an outdoor arena plus a nice round pen.

Buy a horse trailer for around $20,000 then buy 3 horses . One horse would be an awesome ($30,000) show horse and the other two would be trail horses ($10,000 each The other stalls I would rent out to earn a bit of money. I would spend $15,000 on tack and gear for showing and trail riding also including grooming supplies, helmets, boots and riding wear. The left over would be for vet, farrier, lessons, training and insurance.
