please attempt to be nice(you dont really have to if you dont want to, but please try)

i want to invest in a crash vest for myself so i can feel/ be a little more safe when i start riding again. . . but, i dont know how to measure myself for one or what size i should get. . . i'm not exactly small (like most every rider out there) and i have this horrible dread of walking into a tack store and asking the people there and them answering something like this:

*they look at me up and down and all over* then say-we dont have that in a size THAT big. *meanwhile in the back ground hear a few snickers from the girls behind me.

so how do i go about finding the right fit for me? is there any web site that'd help with sizing?

thanks.

  1. You need a professional to fit saftey equipment. period.

What bothers me more is not the rudness you fear, but the fact that you let it bother you.

Get up your confidence and go to a store. If they are rude, report it to the manager and take your money elseware.

Hiding is a horrible way to live.

  2. Just go in there and ask - my friend is double G ( yes I know) and they got one to fit her so I doubt you will really have a problem.

  3. Oh, no!  Don't feel that way.  If you're that anxious, I'd reccomend calling Dover Saddlery's customer service line and asking how to take your measurements for the vests they sell.  They are (in my experience anyway) very helpful and know what they're talking about (try State Line Tack, too).  That way you can have an idea of how to do it, and then you can get an idea of what size you'd take.  Once you know approximately what size you take, you can call up local tack shops to ask if they have this or that size (or size range) in stock.  That way you can try one on in person to see if you like the way it fits and feels.

Don't sweat it too much....riders come in all different shapes and sizes, and a person's build has pretty much nothing to do with their ability.  Good luck!

  4. go to the Tipperary website because they have many vest. It doesn't matter what size you may be as long as you ride safely. My boyfriends mom gets hers from there and she always makes me wear one when I ride with her.

Good luck and always remember to keep you and your horse safe at all times.  I hope you find what you need on this website. I am not sure if they have helmets or not but you can give it a shot.
