Question:

Horse occupation social environment/atmosphere?

I realize it can depend on the specific horse occupation, and it's not ALWAYS the same.

Incase you don't understand how to infer that;

Ex. In a children's nursery, (although not all) many of the people their are/can be very positive and eager to help.

[I know this from experience]

So from your personal(or friend's) experience in a specific occupation revolving around horses, tell me the social atmosphere or describe the good and bad points of the people that usually consist in that occupation.

All productive comments that ANSWER(or at least try to) my question, are appreciated.

  1. well i have just moved out of the horse competition circle and riding circle in general after 18 years in it.

    I have worked in many areas and find the majority of horse people are rude, dishonest, mean spirited, obnoxious and opinionated. it is by far the most dishonest hobby and i feel bad being around all these people. although English people are the worst (please don't hate me i don't know you so i'm not actually talking about you) they are s****. and ill-informed. I'm sort of glad i'm out of it

  2. As a high school equestrian coach...It's not bad with the students.  It's the parents that cause the problems.  The kids are excited and willing to work past their comfort zones.  When the parents stick their noses in...it creates frustration for the coach, the rider, and the horses.

    For example...Kid is looking forward to trying a new event or manuever.  Kid is willing to attempt it again and again.  Parent wants to come in and interfere with 'teaching' the kid.

    So...relationship and social activities between coach and kids is good...usually.  Interactive.  Relationship with parents is mostly one of tolerance.  Kids get caught between listening to the coach...or their parents.  Not fun anymore for kids OR the coach.

    p.s...I almost didn't answer.  Your edit about superior knowledge and experience 'felt' rude to me...

    ***right back at ya...I answered with how I read it.  Couldn't really tell if you were setting up 'horse experts...which aren't'...or just frustration that you weren't receiving answers.  Wasn't trying to offend you...just said what I was 'interpreting.'

    **EDIT...Redial...I concur...I don't know about English shows though...
