  1. I think nanna and aunty are really good suggestions. Maybe like... sorry,  i got nothing.

  2. I have a friend in this very same situation and the kids call her Nanna, like the Nanna in Peter Pan......not the actual mother, but a mother figure non the less! Good luck!

  3. My stepdaughter calls me "........[my name]mom"

So do most of the troubled teenagers that I work with.

And the 'regular' teens that I work with.

Doesn't seem to offend their parents.  And actually that is what the parents know me by.

I'm still an authority figure...but the 'mom' part of my name...how do I say this...gives the teens a chance to get close to me emotionally.  To confide in me.  Like another mother figure...but not their 'real' mom.

I also use this 'title' with my young children's class that is 5-8 year olds.  Again...no apparent problems with parents disagreeing with it.

I'm making a mess of explaining this...I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

  4. How about aunty? That's close enough to be family without actually being "Mum"

    ...just a thought :-)

  5. I think nanna is cute
