  1. when he bucks it could be b.c. mabe without knowing it squeezing and pulling back at the same time. i would just try alot of SMALL half halts.

  2. If he does this when you are leading him, back him up. Make him work. Walk him in circles and figure 8's. Every time he tries to pass you, work him. Keep doing this until he learns that it is easier to walk with you than ahead of you.

  3. You're training this horse, or he's a horse you're taking lessons on?

Your question says "when you warm up..."  My advice is warm him up without getting on.  Longe him at the trot and canter and if he doesn't obey your commands when you are longeing him, pull him back.  Or free-longe him to canter out the "sillies" and then longe him correctly keeping him in his gaits.

After 15-20 min of longeing, if he is acting nice for you, then you can ride him.  If he won't stay in his gait, longe him some more.  You want to train him to wtc as you wish, not just do whatever he chooses.

    Good luck!

  4. my horse does the same thing... he is in training though so I'm not sure about your situation/amount of training your horse has had.... lunging is always an easy way to get some extra energy out but it is hard on the horses legs, I lunge my horse for 10-15minutes tops before I get on and never in a small circle, which really helps. Also if he tries to buck don't give him a chance, use a running martingale on him (if you ride English) and don't give him a really loose rein (if he starts to put his head down, push him forward and pull his head up) you can also try to put more pressure on one rein to get him to bend a little as he stops and as soon as he is almost stopped then even out the pressure in the reins and just give him a small squeeze with your calves, just not enough that he could confuse it with a cue to pic up the pace again. hope some of this helps!

  5. keep lunging him to make sure he gets it through his head that he HAS to walk then trot then canter!

  6. Sounds like your horse has your number and he has no respect for you.  You need to teach him to stay out of your space and to walk in the correct position at the correct gait.  It takes practice and good communication with your horse.  When you allow this behavior, you have taught your horse that it is OK for him to do this.  Get some help.   sounds like you need it.
