  1. I own five miniature horses. All of mine cost $2,000+ so they still are VERY expensive. You would still have to pay a boarding fee. Miniature HORSES are HORSES so they need vet checks JUST THE SAME as regular horses. They need there feet trimmed too (maybe a week or two longer than normal sized horses) I am sorry I know of no boarding barns in Ontario because I live in the south xP but I have haerd of people ridng horses in Ontario so I am sure there are plenty of barns.

I am sorry, but Mini horses are still going to be pretty expansive. Plus they can't be ridden (I don't know if you want a horse you can ride or what) They can pull a cart on the other hand but they cost $500+ and the harnesses rang between $100 & $500 also.

Your best bet is to find a lesson barn (if you all ready don't take lessons... which you should even if you just want a Mini they need all the same knowledge as a large horse) or find a place you can lease a horse. Leasing is a great thing to do, and while you are leasing you can save up money for your own horse :)

  2. A mini is a real horse and it needs care just like the larger sized ones. You get what you pay for in horses and none are 'cheap'. I'd forget about a foal...

Sounds like you need to learn more about horses before you get one. You can't always have what you want.

  3. I live in TX and mini horses are expensive too.  They are neat tho and if you can afford one, you will have lots of fun.  Yes, you should get it vet checked as you would any other horse.  Good luck and have fun.

  4. A horse of any size is expensive. Maybe not for the initial purchase, but over the next 20-30 years. Not only is boarding, shoeing, feeding and hauling a horse expensive, if it gets sick, which it eventually will, your vet bills could be in the thousands of dollars. If you don't have that kind of money, your horse could die. Think about that. If money is already such a big concern, it sounds like you aren't ready for a horse.

  5. just to let you know, a mini horse is a real horse.

  6. There is no such thing as a cheap horse.  You can check out my blog on this on my 360 page--it's called the considerations of horse ownership.  It discusses equipment, shoeing, vets and many other things people don't think about before buying a horse.

  7. All horses are expensive weather or not it is mini and dependeing on your weight/height and mini can't carry you. Plus if you choose a foal he/she will have NO training and will NOT be broken.  If I was you I'd step it up a little and buy a full blown horse.

  8. they don't cost near as much as a stander horse or a pony but they all depend on breed and color and how old they r minis r rare in north America . and like for the vet calls and every thing r based on when u get it and for what reasons and there not as expensive in the long run . a they don't eat as much and b they need as much equipment as bigger horse sense u don't ride them or any thing. and it all depends on how much u pamper  him or her as to how expensive it'll be hope i helped

  9. Well Mini horses are the same as regular sized ponies or horses. They require the same vet checks and ferrier visits. They are not like dogs even though they are the size of dogs. They can be just as expensive if not more then a regular horse. They require the same care as a big horse. They need to be checked by a vet at least once a year and the ferrier every six weeks. They rack up the same money as a regular horse.

  10. 1 - Mini Horses are REAL horses.

2 - I live and own horses in Ontario. Ontario boarding is expensive. Near Toronto, boarding is about $600 a month.

3 - All animals need vet checks, regardless of whether or not they're mini.

4- I would advise you against purchasing a mini. I'm going to have to really stress that if you CAN'T AFFORD A HORSE, YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS BUYING A MINI. I should know, someone left their undernourished horse at my doorstep tonight, probably because the price of hay is rising, and they couldn't afford to feed him. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just trying to save you the heartbreak you will face when you realize that you can't afford to keep your mini and you need to sell him.

My advice would be to take lessons at a local barn and bond with the minis and horses there.

  11. if you can not afford a real horse you can not afford a mini horse, they start for sale at over 2,000.00, and need the same care as a big horse, they just eat less. if you need to board. then most likely you want a horse for all the wrong reasons. Horses dye from lack of affection as well lack of food, and water. have a nice day, get a cat, or dog

  12. try google thats where we found my horse and he is a great barrel/ jumping horse and we found him at a great price!!

  13. Omg that is just cruel, a mini horse is a REAL one. They cost EXACTELY the same, and need JUST AS MUCH care as an 18.2hh!!

Trust me, buying the horse isn't the expensive part, and by the sounds of it you don't know much about horses - so i would definetaly not get a young foal!!

  14. Only very small children can ride minis.

Minis need all the same care as larger horses, including vet care and farriers to trim their feet. They also need something to do so they don't become nasty brats.

If you're looking for a cheap horse go buy a stuffed on at the store. There is no such thing as a cheap horse once you start paying for board, wormer, blankets, halters, brushes, etc.

Maybe you should find a horse that's for lease so you can get the experience of what kind of care horses take without completely jumping in.

  15. first off:

just because its smaller doesnt mean it will be any cheaper

a better alternative is to lease or half-lease a horse at your barn.

    its MUCH cheaper than buying

ask your instructor if there are any for lease or half-lease.

leasing can range from about 200 to 500 dollars a month

    half-leasing is about 100 to 400 a month

it may be more or less depending on your barn

still, if you have your heart set on an american miniature horse or fallabella etc,, here are a few ideas:

    check http://www.equine.com/

they might have some for sale.

also google: miniature horse rescues in ontario

    or something similar

here's some for sale i found

    http://www.equinenow.com/miniatureontari...

if none of that helps you, then ask someone at your barn

i dont know of any boarding places... i dont live in canada.

you could ask or google too.

or you could try building a shed & paddock in your backyard [if you have room]

    but he may get lonely...

look how much info i found on them just by googling:

    http://www.google.com/search?q=caring+fo...

i say the best thing to do is to lease or half-lease.

    ok...

    well,,

    hope this helps :]

  16. it doesnt really matter about size, all horses are expensive but you can sometimes find little shetland ponys for a few hundred bucks.

    hope this helps :)
