My friend has a stallion & is thinking of getting a mare that has already been bred. Is it safe to put them together since she is already pregnant? Also, can you put a gelding with a stallion?

Thank you to all who answer.

  1. depends on the stallion

  2. It depends on the stallion.  Some are as quiet as geldings, some think that they're the kings of the barn and should be treated as such.

The gelding/stallion combination will rely on the stallion's temperament; keep a CLOSE eye and at the first sign of trouble, separate.  It could be risky.

I don't recommend the mare/stallion, because logic says that she will not always be pregnant.  What about when she foals? And what about specializing lodgings for the baby?

Keep separate if possible, because it's a guaranteed safety.

  3. Normally a MARE already been bred is safe. YES SAFE ENOUGH.

  4. I would never but a gelding with a stallion.Even if u think the stallion is calm.I think is extremely dangerous to put a mare that is in foal with a stallion. The stallion could get jealous. The stallion should be but in his own field that has a strong fence.
