i just saw it, as most people i dont get the chance to watch much racing.

i'm not asking weather you think racing is bad or not, i'm asking what you think of the horse itself, do you think he'll be horse of the year? do you think he'll deserve the title(ifhe gets it)? and how do you think he'll do in the breeders cup? and last: how do you feel about his breeding career that will take place when he is retired from racing?

  1. i dont think he deserves it.

i think Eight Belles deserves it.

even though she passed away, she tried her best, and thats anyone can ask for. =[

  2. i dont understand why you guys think big brown is such a bad horse...he is an amazing racer but his feet are screwed up.

i agree eight belles should win horse of the year...she died and she was  the only filly in a long time to place in the kentucky durby

  3. Well, I got reported for my last answer about Big Brown.

    - I dont think he is that amazing. He is an OK horse with some heart that managed to beat a rather weak crop of horses over two short distance races.

    - If he gets horse of the year, there is something seriously wrong with the system.

    - No I dont think he deserves Horse of the Year.

    - Im hoping he MAKES it to the Breeders Cup. The owners are still racing him. I am praying he doesnt break down in the Breeders Cup. As long as everyone makes it though the race, I dont care how he places.

    - I dont think he deserves a breeding career. At least not a major one. let him get a few babies running and see how they do. If they have the same bad feet with only mediocer results. STOP BREEDING.

I am not a big fan of Big Brown. I think he is a good horse, not amazing, but good. Comparing him to Secretariat, Ruffian and other horses of their calibar is going to far though.

  4. Until I figured out Big Brown took steroids frequently I did. If he didn't take those steriod he probley wouldn't have even gotten close to winning, simple as that.

I also think they Eight Belles should get it too. She had soo much heart :)

  5. Eight Belles does!

  6. i think hes an awesome horse, and of coarse i went to the preakness and the belmont stakes and rooted him on. But eight belles should get horse of the year, she was the only filly in a long time to place in the kentucky derby and she deserves something for it.

about the breeders cup i dont think he should enter because of his hoofs, he could break his leg racing with feet like tht. At the belmont i was so scared he was gona have to be put down because when he started falling back he was shaking his head and freaking out, just like 8 bells did when she broke her leg :((.

Im not saying anything bad about big brown hes an awesome horse, but 8 bells deserves horse of the year.

  7. There is some validity to the questions around Brownie's Belmont and his shoe... seen here: http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/triplecro...

I am not sure he will be horse of the year though.  It depends on who wins the Breeder's Cup.  Curlin is a racing machine and I think Big Brown would have to run an extraordinary race to beat him.

His breeding career... I've got mixed feelings.  Once again, we are breeding another stallion with bad feet to mares that were likely retired unsound.  Granted, Brownie is a nice looking boy and he's got speed.

Guess we wait to the Breeder's Cup to find out.

    Edit:

All this talk of Eight Belles winning HOTY is silly and I'm sure I will get lots of thumbs down for it.  ONE horse has a public breakdown and that makes her a candidate for HOTY?  What about all those claimers with big hearts that suffered the same fate?  Where is their award?

Big Brown didn't "take" steroids.  It's not like he made a concious Lance Armstrong type decision.  He was GIVEN steriods by his trainer.  Steroids that weren't illegal and that were out of his system by the Derby.  (Last dose was 4/15/08).  It was long out of his system by the Preakness and it gives no credit to his gutsy Haskell win.

Go ahead... Thumbs down me... I took off the rose colored glasses years ago.
