Horse racing, Catterick’s Tuesday meeting gets the go-ahead
The National Hunt fixture, which was scheduled to take place at Catterick on Tuesday, has been announced to kick off as planned. This announcement was made after the officials of the racecourse cancelled the inspection that was planned before the race.
Talking to correspondents on Tuesday, the clerk of the course, Fiona Needham, gave her report. She stated, “We got down to 0 degree Celsius at about five o’ clock on Monday night, then the cloud cover came in and we’ve been absolutely fine with no frost”.
She also added that according to the Met Office, the temperature in the day would remain around 4-5 degree Celsius. The going at Catterick has been revealed to be good and good-to-soft. This will allow the first race to start at 12.15 p.m. today.
Other races that will be going ahead today are the Folkestone and Southwell meetings. Folkestone’s going has been reported to be soft for the Hurdle fixture and good-to-soft for the Chase fixture. Moreover, there is no forecast of overnight frost at Folkestone.
On the other hand, the going at Southwell is standard and the first race will be kicking off at 12.25 p.m. The track has been reported not to have worked and 1mm of rainfall is also expected overnight. Meanwhile, the Totesport.com Peterborough Chase has now been scheduled to take place at Newbury on 15th December.
The Grade II event was called off at Huntingdon due to the extreme weather conditions on Sunday. The meeting was formerly planned to take place on last Thursday. The clash will be run over a distance of two miles and four-and-a-half furlongs and has been kept from becoming a part of an eight-race card.
Jason Brautigam of Totesport was reported as saying,“With freezing conditions forecast to hit Britain again in the latter part of the week, everyone has worked swiftly to take advantage of the limited window of opportunity to hold this prestigious race and the tote is delighted to lend its support to the re-arranged Peterborough Chase at Newbury”.
