Horse racing, “Kauto Star” in his perfect form
According to his regular partner, Clifford Baker, Kauto Star is “looking and feeling as good as ever”.
The champion racehorse will be heading for his second schooling session with an injured jockey, Noel Fehily, next week, before running in the William Hill King George VI Chase. This meeting will be held at Kempton, on 26th December.
The ten-year old colt will be running in this meeting to claim the event for the fifth time. Talking about the development of his horse, his trainer Paul Nicholls was reported as saying, “He hasn’t been held up at all by the weather and you saw on Saturday that mine are in great form. Noel has schooled him once, and he’ll probably school him once more next week”.
He also stated that Kauto Star is in great form and his regular rider at home, Clifford Baker, is also feeling very optimistic about the upcoming race. Nicholls was very pleased with the way the horse has been working out before the event, as he thinks his horse is exactly where he wants him to be.
On the other hand, the trainer of the five-year old, Long Run, Robert Waley-Cohen, is of the view that his colt can emerge as a real challenge to Kauto Star and is a serious threat to his winning streak in the King George.
Long Run is being written off as a second favourite by the sponsors of the event. The trainer also said that he is a great fan of Kauto Star but is hoping that this King George meeting will be claimed by his colt, Long Run.
Speaking to media correspondents at a promotional lunch for the two-day William Hill Winter Festival, Waley-Cohen was reported as saying, “Kauto is king, and he is an absolute superstar, but we have to try to topple him and Long Run has the greatest potential of any horses I’ve ever been involved with”.
The clerk of the Kempton racecourse, Brian Clifford, was almost certain that the meeting will not fall to the weather, despite his decision to down the frost covers today. The temperatures are expected to go as low as minus six degree Celsius, by the end of this week. However, the forecast for next week is not very harsh.
