Horse racing, what do u look for top trated horses?

when analyzing a race for value I always look for a horse that is on the improve, or one that didnt get the trip that seemed to suit the horses best running style...such as a horse that gets a bad break, post ,or is forced to move early because of the flow of the race, or a horse that has speed that doesnt get the lead because hes in an outside post or gets in a speed duel...I prefer a horse that can rate or close from just off the pace because that horse can always work a trip out regardless of where he is placed in the gate, also that horse should deliver significant betting value over a horse that always shows speed because most bettors like using speed horses...(which is also why Andy Beyer hates keenlands new polytrack ...because its not speed favoring like his system numbers)...so thats pretty much what I look for in any race, not just top rated horses
