Question:

Horse racing? Found betting slip - horse came second?

I found a betting slip that someone had dropped yesterday, and have checked the results and the horse has come second.

I don't have a clue about racing/betting slips etc.

How would I know if this slip entitles me to win anything? and if so, how do I go about collecting the winnings?

I know it may seem dishonest, but really - what are the chances of finding it's real owner?

  1. Unless it was an each way bet their is nothing to come, probably why it was discarded!!

  2. Depends on what you mean by slip...OTB Parlors give out slips/tickets... measurements are approx.  3 inch by 2 inch.  OTB ticket don't use the name of horse, they just use Track name, number of race and then the number or numbers bet, it would have to be a place bet to win second.  Also note, there are several combinations and stratigies to betting.  If it was issued through OTB - OFF Track Betting. All you can do is  stop in an OTB  closest to you, they will check the ticket and pay if it's good.

Well, if you don't know who lost it, I guess the old saying stands...

    Finders keepers..losers weepers.

  3. Firstly, check if the slip is still valid. It may be really old and you may not be able to use it anymore.

Then find out where the bet was placed and go to this betting shop. Hand the betting slip over to the person behind the counter and they will give you your winnings.

  4. if the horse was backed each way you have a winner. Cash it then. if in doubt go to the bookies and they will either give you money or tell you its a losing ticket.

  5. hand it in to the bookie, they will know who the owner is.

  6. Hand it to the bookies named on the slip.

They will let u know about the winnings.

If it was to win. U have nothing, but another bet or each way, u may get a little.

  7. If the ticket says "Each Way" or "E/W" on it - it will be worth something.  But otherwise it is rubbish.

  8. The person who lost this betting slip only has to go back to the shop and fill the exact details of the missing slip horse, time, meeting, handwriting etc, to claim HIS winnings.

so unless your prepared for a bit of embarassment i wouldn,t bother with it.

p.s what was the name of the horse ?

  9. cash it as fast as you can....lol
