  1. He's riding at Oaklawn.

    Jockey Bios: John Jacinto

Born:  7/28/76,  Lima Peru   Resides: San Antonio, Texas   Family: Christine, (wife);  Casey, (daughter)

John put high drama in last year's riding race for top jockey, nipping Luis Quinonez on the final day of the meeting. A native of Peru, Jacinot took the crown 45-44.

His Spa victories included Heart Appeal in the $50,000 Rainbow Stakes, April 2.

Sponsored by Sam David, Sr. Jacinto came to the United States in the winter of 2000-01.

"I rode briefly at Calder and then moved to Sam Houston. I even tried Canterbury. I had some problems with my papers, so I didn't get to ride for a time, so I went broke. Once the visa thing was behind me, I rode at Louisiana Downs and all over Texas."

In a short time, he had won four riding titles, even before adding Oaklawn.

At Retama, on a horse for Tony Richey, I won my first $100,000 stakes," said Jacinto.

At Keeneland, he roused Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey's Dawn At War to victory in the $500,000 Lane's End Breeders Futurity.

That was my first win in a Grade I race," said Jacinto.

By 2005, Jacinto had become a household name. That year, he rode 194 winners from 1,204 mounts as his mounts earned $4,207,652.

Today, John, his wife and small son reside in San Antonio.

"I need to mention some people who helped me get started in this country, folks such as the Davids, senior and junior, Ben Gonzalez, H.B. Johnson and his son Kevin. I am very lucky to have had so much support," agreed Jacinto.
