  1. The National is the one race that pretty much anyone over the age of 18 has a bet, even if it's the one and only bet of the year. Most are novices and pop in to their local betting shop, which is probably the easiest thing to do. however, YOU DON'T GET THE BEST ODDS in the local bookies.

Best bet is t have a browse online. Bookies are fighting hand over fist for your custom and like mentioned free bets and other offers such as if your horse falls you'll get your money back (think that is VCBet).

Worth having a look around a site like http://www.betting-directory.com and see what they have on offer.

    hoep this helps ;-)

  2. If you fancy Cloudy Lane go ahead and back it.

It's better to back a short priced winner than a long priced loser and nothing beats the feeling of seeing your horse winning the great race.

  3. if you do the horse to win, they have to come first.

if you say your horse each way, they can come 1st 2nd or 3rd, or more or less depedning on the amount of runners in the race.

9/2  so tht means u put £2 on you get 9 back, so if u put £4 on you get £18 back, anf if u put £5 on you get £22.50 back including your stake of £5 so in total you would get back:

    £27.50

i've had the last 2 winners of the national, and the two which strongly stand out and i believe will win are:

    simon 14-1

    chelsea harbour 16-1

    each way selections:

    knowhere 50-1

    madison du berlais 66-1

if i had to pick one for the whole thing, it would be SIMON.

  4. For every £2 you put on you'll win £9 back plus your stake.

So if you put £5 on you'd get £27.50 back.

You have the option to back it to win or 'each way'.

Each way means that the odds are 1/4 per place from 1st to 3rd. Some races may even give you 4th though.

  5. you should never back a horse at such short odds to win a high class race ... whether it wins or not, chances are the horse that comes 2nd, 3rd, or fourth will bring you more profit.

I think its a con to offer anything less than 10/1 for any horse to get around the National Track, anything could happen. Even if a horse had five legs it's not sure to win.

Want something to do with the fiver ? Buy a bottle of plonk and enjoy the race on tele.

  6. If that's what you fancy then go for it.

Some people look for value when betting but it is better to back a short priced winner than a long priced loser.

You might want to back it each way. That means you will get some of your money back should it finish in the first 4 (although many bookmakers are paying out the first 5 in the GN).

    Roughly speaking if you put £2 on it each way (thats £4 in total) at odds of 9/2 you will get the following back;

    - If it wins £15.25 (including your £4 stake)

    - If it finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th (maybe even 5th) $4.25 (including your £4 stake)

There are loads of online bookies offering free bets this weekend too.

Good Luck and enjoy the race!
