  1. The only stables I know of in the city are in the Wissahickon section of Fairmount Park.  I used to run there, and I saw horseback riders on Forbidden Drive all the time who claimed they stabled their horses in the city, near the park.  I wish I could be more specific, but don't lose hope, because they are out there!  You can call the park at 215-477-6814 and ask about horseback riding.

  2. oh this is a hard question...

    im not really sure

i dont live anywhere near there

  3. You will first need to scout out farms close to your area who offer lessons for beginners. I suggest you go to more than 1 farm and see which instructor and facility you feel most comfortable with. Generally group lessons are cheaper than one on one instruction and costs per hour vary, it will depend on the going rates in your area. I would guess it to be in the $40- $70 per hour range....again it depends on your area. You'll need to talk to the instructor before your first lesson to find out what attire they want you in....minimum of boot w/ heel most likely...long pants and if they're providing a helmet for you to borrow. As far as the washing/ feeding/ caring you mentioned it will be unlikely unless you are trying to become a working student to pay for your lessons. Unless you have some experience around horses you may not have that opportunity right off the bat.

As far as the scale of difficulty, that will be totally dependent on you. Riding can be alot of work and can make you a bit sore until certain muscles are built up. Seems to me that most who fall in love with horses and riding don't notice it as much as others, just depends on the person.Good luck!
