Question:

Horse riding?

I went horseback riding today and had quite a bit of vaginal bleeding. Is this something that commonly happens? This isn't a hymen issue, I am happily married. Any idea about what could have caused this?

  1. It was probably because:

You were riding a very bumpy horse

You were in a very uncomfortable saddle

Or you have not ridden in awhile or it is your first time, meaning that your body is not used to it.

I dont think its common to bleed, but there can be pain due to the options above. Eventually your body gets used to it or you get better at riding and you learn to position yourself to not get hurt so easily.

    I hope this helped!

  2. My suspicion is that you may have had a cysts. All women, pretty much, will have at least one cyst at some time.  When these cysts burst, they can release blood and/or fluid.  I have had several.

So, I believe, that during the time you went riding, the impact, work, etc. was enough to make a cyst burst.

Of course, I am not a physician or anything, but in my non-expert opinion, I believe that this is what happened.  I suspect that your gynecologist would say the same.

  3. Oh wow, I wasn't prepared for that :P Perhaps a Urinary Tract Infection? I know when they get severe they can cause bleeding, and riding could of possibly just made it a little worse. Be sure to go to the doctors, it could be serious.

  4. could it just be bad timing? what i mean is, do you think you just got your period and it was an odd coincidence?

add- hmm. i'd say talk to your doctor then. if its not your period, something might have triggered it. call your doc asap and explain the situation.

    good luck!

  5. Wow, that is totally unusual.  I've been riding for almost 19 years, and never had that happen.  Is it possible that you started your period?  Are you pregnant?  I would definitely contact a doctor.  I've never heard any of my family or friends have this kind of issue just from riding.  There shouldn't be enough impact to cause that type of injury/symptom.

    I hope you're okay!

  6. See your GYN for a pap smear. You may have something going on. I have never heard of or experienced that myself.

I can't think of anything that would cause that.

  7. You may have injured yourself by sitting on your crotch instead of your bum... That's a mistake a lot of women who don't ride often and beginners make. I wouldn't think it would hurt you enough to cause bleeding, but i suppose it's possible.

I know that I have been riding, especially in my younger days and have rubbed the area raw enough to bleed, but haven't actually had bleeding from my private areas. Could it have been that?

Either way it sounds rather unusual... Something I'd recommend having checked out by a doctor.

  8. It's possible that you had residual endometrial slough (menstrual blood) and that riding brought it forth.  If it had been a hemorrhage, I would think it might be a miscarriage, but it sounds as though it was a minor bleed.  If the blood appeared bright red, rather than dark as is menstrual blood, it would be considered as uterine bleeding.  If it doesn't recur, it is most likely nothing to be concerned over.  You could call your OB/GYN to run it past her/him.

  9. I've been riding for 42 years and have never had that happen.

My daughter has been riding for 20 years and I'm sure that has never happened to her ether. I hope you see you doctor about that soon. (Just in case).

  10. iv done worse....i was running on mac, his saddle has a VERY large saddle horn about the size of a saucer plate... we were booking it fast as he can go then all of a sudden a car honked its horn. it freaked mac out so he stopped so fast i slammed my..uhh..lady parts smack into teh saddle bruising my "lips" for 2 weeks
