  1. Well, I would say..all of the above!!

But, if you have an interest in showing,  you need to state that you have an interest in showing.  If you hear other riders talking of an upcoming show around your barn..I would tell your instructor that you heard of this and would be interested.  At that point, I'm sure that you will be told if your not quite ready yet , and then discuss with the instructor what areas need improving in order to meet that goal.

Showing is a lot of fun..but ask about the costs as far as trailering, proper attire, entry fees, horse fees if not yours, trainers fees, lodging and other travelling expenses for you too, etc.

There are plenty of entry level classes to go into just to get your feet wet..perhaps W-T for the time being.

Anyhow, I think the main thing is to show an interest and ask..perhaps they didn't realize you were interested in that route.

  2. If its your horse. Then you tell the barn you are going to a show, but normally they don't your friends say that your good enough.

  3. Depends who owns the horse.  Is it one of your barns horses?  Are you with a trainer or instructor?  Normally if you are, they will tell you when you are ready.  Also, it depends on the caliber of the show.

  4. just ask around and see if your barn even hosts shows(some dont) see where the shows are being held in your area, whether its a local barn or a fairground.

  5. i'm not sure, i keep my own horses, but i think that you should ask them, then if they don't think you're ready, they'll tell you.

  6. It depends on the situation. If you are showing for the first time, you may want to ask your instructors and such about it. They can give you info about showing and whether or not you're ready for it. I dont remember quite well...But I think this is what happened with me:

My friends started showing, they wanted me to show with them, but I felt unprepared b/c I didnt really know anything about it at the time (We are all at the same riding level)

I finally went and told the person who runs the barn that I was interested in it.

She told me that I could ask my friends about how showing is like and that I could go to horse equipment stores (Ex. Dover Saddlery) and ask the storekeepers about it, and they would help with what I needed to buy for a show

I signed up for a show in around April, and it got rained out, so later on in late April/early May I signed up for another show, and I got four 4th places, one 3rd place, one 2nd place, and 1 first place, therefore, I got the champion ribbon =)

Anyways, I wish you the best of luck with your showing!

  7. i would ask ur trainer if he/she thinks you'd be ready.... my trainer told me when i was ready after i asked her. It always depends on your trainer but if you're really interested you should ask your trainerif you're ready. If it's your own horse then its rly up to you but i'd say still get your trainers opinion. =] Good luck

  8. Um, is this your horse? Or a horse you take riding lessons on? Or do you lease it? So I'm assuming the show is at your barn...well if it's an open show, then you just show up. Most horseshows that are small and local you just show up to. Or to be on the safe side, ask your barn.
