  1. It would be best if you could get hooked up with a good trainer for a couple of months.  It''s experience and training and practice, practice, practice that will get you where you can control your horses trot and canter.  If you get with a good trainer she can give you the skills you need.

  2. Have u done any dressage work?  I know your doing hunters but if your trainer will show you how to collect your horse (much like u do between fences to get ur strides and find ur spots) then she'll become round and "on the bit".  Teaching a horse to come on the bit and respond isn't always easy (I have a welsh/thourghbred mare that never learned to relax on the flat) but getting them on the bit does help.  My mare never learned.  Could pin in the A shows over fences and can do training level or better dressage but in a ring with the other horses she loses her brain.  We've worked with her on this issue the better part of six years, nothing works.  Still just keep trying see if u can take some group lessons so ur horse can be around the other horses (which makes it harder for her to concentrate on u and is more of a herd and exciting atmosphere).  Good Luck
