OK real quick. Does paprika really work well for darkening the coat? I read somewhere that USEF had made it an illegal drug..? why would paprika be considered a drug? Is the original SOURCE good? I have heard good things about it. Any other suggestions on shiny coat supplements?

  1. to get a nice healthy shiney coat  use Flax Seed

  2. linseed oil, corn oil, vegetable oil, flax seed. Those all work for me! I dont think paprika would be illegal i think that is just dumb!! I mean what would they be arresting you for? that would just be stupid. I also heard it works though so i would just use it. Unless you are going to big big shows your horse isn't even going to get tested. AND it is not a drug anyways it is a SPICE for crying out loud! I dont know where you read this... I heard it brings out the colour in their coat but yah the things i mentioned first shine a horses coat really well!

    I hope i helped you!

  3. A good and healthy supplement for coat, skin and hooves is Omega Horseshine.  Overall, a good balanced diet and proper grooming will give you the best and most beautiful appearance.  Grooming properly brings out your horse's natural skin oils so he can look gorgeous naturally.

  4. You could also use something topical, like a shampoo...

QuicBlack Shampoo (there are ones for other colors, too):

  5. I heard this too, I was told that the USEF does drug test on the horses at the shows, the problem with Paprika is not that its bad for the horses, just that it will show up as "Positive" on the drug test, you can't prove that it is just Paprika, you see, if they let you do that, everyone would feed their horses some kind of drug and just blame it on the Paprika...so since it shows up in the test results, it is banned...but I hear it works great!

I use "Grand Coat" from "Grand Meadows" for my coat supplement, not sure about one that darkens a horse, but each horse I use this on that had some sort of rain rot/bad coat, I would see a MAJOR difference in about 2 weeks!

  6. Feed a high end feed, not the discount store suff, and thats all you need.  I use m.f.a. easykeeper, and neighbors keep asking what suplements I use.  None.  But they buy cheap feed, then use addatives.  Dosnt make any sense does it?
