Horse teeth? Plz answer!?

Question

So I was at a horse camp, and one of the trainers said that geldings/studs have more teeth than mares. Why is that? I knwo the males have more teeth in the back that are called cainine and wolf teeth. So why don't mares have them too?

okay, trust me. that guy doens't know what he's talking about. all hroses have the same amount of teeth unless some broke or fell out and rotted(in special cases). that guy is dumb and doesn't knwow hat theheck ehs' talking about.

Most horses, male and female, will grow wolf teeth.  Canine teeth are almost always only found in males.  Wolf teeth don't really have a purpose anymore, kind of like the human appendix.  It was there for a reason once upon a time, but not anymore.  

As for why males (generally) only grow canines, there are only theories.  The differences in the appearances of males and females is called sexual dimorphism, and this falls under that category.  It's probably safe to assume that the appearance of canine teeth in males perhaps enhances his ability to present himself as a more formidable opponent, if he finds himself in a stand-off with another male. (No one knows for sure, though.)  Males generally do the defending of territory and other members of their group, hence their (generally) larger size, canine teeth, etc.

Wolf teeth and canine teeth are easily confused with one another by some people, so that probably accounts for the confusion!

Well the wolf teeth aren't counted because might not be present in all horses, but I don't know why males have more than females, thats a good question.
